Known for his aggressive & relatable lyrics, Yung City has made a name for himself in the streets of D.C. Rapping was no issue to this stand-out young man. Born Christoper Banks, better known as Yung City. Born & Raised in the streets of Southside 19th & Minnasota. Since the day of conception, god graced City with this talent to create music for the streets! -LIVING IN THA GUTTA: BORN IN THE CITY OF SHELLS. But through his eyes, he sees the city of lost souls. God granted him this gift to create music for the streets & thats what he's offering to everyone. Just a taste of the REAL. Confident in his selfgiven, Hard work & persistence will take where he was destined to be from birth, THE TOP. THATS RIGHT THE TOP OF THE BILBOARD! "IM TRYNA GET SIGNED TO A MAJOR LABEL, IM TRYNA BE A CA$H MONEY ARTIST. I SWEAR THAT IMA GET THERE. IMA LOST ANGEL, BUT SOON I'LL BE FOUND! ITS JUST A MATTA OF GETTIN OUT THERE AND MAKING THAT ONE CONNECTION, THAT LIFE CHANGING CONNECTION THAT MAKES OR BREAKS A NIGGA. I DONT KNOW SHIT BOUT ANYONE ELSE BUT I BEEN READY NIGGA: ALL MY LIFE"- Yung City
At the age of 18, early 2007 his father died. Yung City began rapping at block parties as a child, and his performance at one of them caught the ear of Trappa, a Arsnel rapper also from the neighborhood, who soon after the show gave him his phone number. He went on an freestyle session with Trap, and there met Arsnel Records owners Dutch. Trap & City kept in contact & later formed a group called ReneGang. While it has only been A year since the release of ReneGang's Album, acclaimed rapper Yung City has gone through more than a few personal changes. From dealing with "haters" spitting in his direction to his role in the hottest rap group out: Skull Mafia (myspace.com/skullmafia) to his blown out of proportion "inncident" with the law to being a to being locked up & almost sentenced to 4 years of prison.
Chris "Yung City" Banks put his experiences of being not just an artist in Mista 4 Pound, but also reveals some of what he has learned as Co CEO of Zone G Records. Under his watch are a collection of talented and diverse artists, which include; Trace (the dynamic 28f bred rap star), Trappa (the other Co CEO & smooth platinum selling rapper), Preda J (the groundbreaking female singer) and the newest addition to the Zone G squad, DJ Krazy (the dynamic dj)
"I aint goin lie, but I've made my share of mistakes," confesses City. "I know about success, but I also know about tribulations. It's the balance of the two that is the foundation of my project. In the beginning I was thinking of putting out a double record, with one being City Life and the other Mista 4 Pound, but it's more real to have that dualism on one disc."
One listen to City's Mista 4 Pound and the growth is obvious. "Maturity is a beautiful thing," Yung City says. "Going into the studio to make Mista 4 Pound, I felt wise,a more intelligent person. That was part of the vibe I wanted to bring across on the record, a more personal side that many have not seen. I know this is my first solo album, but I feel as though this is the fifth time I've exposed this much of myself. Like 50 Cent & Game Said, people can either love me or hate me, but they'll always respect me ya digg."
While there isn't any doubt of City's seriousness on M4P (mista 4 pound), he also comes on strong with his trademarked humor. "To me, part of being a complex person is a balance of many things," says City. "On this record I talk about striving, thuggin, memories, money, salvation, amongst other things. I'm not knocking anybody's hustle, but many rappers only talk about one side of their lives. Personally, I'm trying to be more three-dimensional storyteller, and I hope that comes through on the record."
Though City has never done hard time himself (he does admit to a few juvenile mistakes), collaborators Trappa and Trace are two of wordsmith who know that the scene ain't pretty. "I picked those two artists for 'Big Bank,'(new single coming soon) because they know the deal," he explains. "These are guys who have done real time and they know what its like to lose & to have money & I wanted their experience to be part of the fabric of that song. Teaming-up with old friend the Trappa on the first single "Ready," the rapper couldn't have been happier. Unlike the aforementioned tracks, this hypnotic booty bumper is a classic thuggish song that speaks frankly about being ready for war. Calling himself "a chevy ridin gangsta," the 1928f produced single is currently in full effect on myspace & is currently a fan favorite. "I hadn't worked with Trappa since he produced 'Im Cumin 4 ya' " Yung City says. "I just love being in the studio with this nigga, cause he's always down to do something different." In addition, the spacey production also contributed to the up & coming track "Drop Top Chevy," which utilizes a sleek futurist groove and heavy percussion hook taken from T.I.'s 24's. Unafraid of the Black heavy metalist inside of him, City reveals his inner rock god on the Zone King produced song "Bout Dat." Talking about the madness and aggravation of just trying to make it through the hood & how its not a problem when your about it. "We all got struggles in our life," he says. "Not just Black people, everybody. I wrote 'Bout Dat,' because there are times when we all wanna knock a nigga face off, knock out a window or just fuck shit up. IF YOU BOUT DAT" Laughing, City admits that "Bout Dat" is one of his least favorite tracks. "It's just one of those songs, i could've came harder with."
On Feb 14, 2007, Yung City was arrested on charges of assult & resist of arrest. Later he was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (crack). Police claim the rapper was in possession of two small burnt joints of marijuana," the report reads. A second man, Name Unknown, was also charged with possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana. He was released from the County Jail on $11,000 bond following his arrest.
City's partner in crime, Trappa later mildly threw a shot at once friend Supa Biz. Biz retaliated with a track of his own & brought up Yung City's name. City didnt like it so on the Skull Mafia's remix 'Watchu Kno 2' City quotes "throw in the towel man them bustas neva gonna win/ wont you ask Supa Biz how his career gon end// lightly responding to Biz's attack. Biz later made another diss record & with Trace, City & Trappa came back with 'Shoot em Up' (go to myspace.com/zonegrecords & check it out) Still today Yung City continues to slowly lyriaclly end the little career of Supa Biz & Fearless Records as a whole.
