"DWANI"
BIOGRAPHY: INTERVIWED By Fredrick Rachell with scoop magazine
The hip-hop and rap artist that blare on radios, parade across TV screens and earn millions when their albums go platinum have changed the culture of music as we know it forever.
Hearing about the bulletproof skin, a rough upbringing in the hood and days spent locked up, it seems most hip-hop lyrics describe the artist life once lived.
Eighteen-year old rap artist/songwriter, Dwani, was born in Zambia; but raised in cleveland and indiana. he also claims atlanta as his third home while going back and fourth from indiana to atlanta where he is treated like familly. this young talented future of hip-hop is proving his point to being the best. Dwani began rapping at an early age. He wants to prove to the hip-hop/hop community that you don’t have to rhyme about guns. You can rap about songs that inspire the souls of one’s life. As he arrived at The Tylane Building in Indianapolis for his interview, he was eager to talk about his musical talent.
Fredrick: So what’s been going on with you?
Dwani: Nothing much! I’m just working hard and trying to get this album done.
Fredrick: How long have you been rapping?
Dwani: I been rapping every since I was thirteen, but I never really got serious until I was sixteen. I recorded my first song on my sixteenth birthday.
Fredrick: Tell us about your song (Dat Fire) and the whole concept behind it?
Dwani: I have a producer based in Germany and he sent me this beat. So, I was listening to the beat and I actually had a different song for that beat, but I wasn’t feeling it, so I started rapping a little harder to the other lyrics and that’s how the song came about.
Fredrick: Who writes your lyrics?
Dwani: I write my lyrics. To this point, I have never had anybody write my lyrics. Lyrics are the part that comes easy for me. and 99 percent of the time i dont write anything down on paper i listen to teh beat and write it all in my mind It’s something we call organized freestyle.
Fredrick: Have you always been a writer?
Dwani: Somewhat. My favorite class was English, like just because of the writing part itself. I love to speak my mind. I write a lot of stuff down.
Fredrick: Tell us a little bit about your organization – Third House Entertainment?
Dwani: Third House Entertainment is an independent label that we are running right now. We do a lot of booking shows and everybody on the label is a writer. We write from R&B to hip-hop. So, if there are writers out there who are trying to collaborate, get at me?
Fredrick: Hold Me down featuring Dee Dee! Who wrote that song and why Dee Dee?
Dwani: Dee Dee and I go way back. I wrote that song. We was on the phone together while I was writing and Dee Dee was like I like that song, put it together like this.
Fredrick: Where did the name Yung Guttah come from?
Dwani: It don’t necessarily mean the hood, Guttah really means a bad place out of poverty or just out of nowhere. People who has lived in the Guttah, they want to get out of the Guttah; they want to get somewhere better. You know, it’s hard to live there. I was born in Africa. I look at it like that’s the Guttah. We know Africa and have seen stuff that has happened there. Theres got to be a Guttah. So, that’s where the name came from.
Fredrick: What producers are you working with?
Dwani: I’m working with NYCE the best producer in the u.k right now. 2K productions also known as DJ Lennett, krysto Drym Music, Mr. Oliver in St. Louis and a lot of other producers.
Fredrick: What is your main goal in the music industry?
Dwani: I want to inspire people and I want to make my mark in the music industry. I just don’t want to be like another ring tone rapper. No, I don’t want to be like that. I want to be somebody that people will remember.
Dwani also mentions "yes i agree i have been given alot of names through out my career, some call me Yung Guttah and others call me Dwani either one is fine with me as long as you understand im the future of hip-hop then we wont have a problem. i would rather you address me as Dwani for teh simple fact, that name itself seperates me from the rest.
