"Think Beck dry humping the Flaming Lips with the robot from Lost in Space looking on and filming all the action for his own personal collection. The perfect pop band. They're as catchy as hell."

Leftlion Magazine

"The band blend Beck-style flagrant rhythms and otherworldly vocals in a DIY style, creating something danceable, updeat and louder than an American in a sun-visor shop."

Metro London

"A brightly, highly, super cool funk breakbeat three piece from Nottingham, with a sound that is so spot on it would appear this is more american sounding than a british thing! If you imagine Lemonjelly, Massive Attack and Del La Soul forming a supergroup, this would be the outcome!"

Fierce Panda

"With nods to Beck and whatever Kraftwerk would have turned out like if they'd had a girl in the band, Yunioshi's feisty funked-up beats are saucily styed to make your pelvis pivot and your grin groove."

A Negative Narrative

History

Yunioshi: A potted history so far!
Well, we've not been around that long but we've been very busy. In our first year we managed to get two tracks from our first EP1 picked up for ad syncs (Kia and Vauxhall cars), released our first single, played Nottingham Arena as well as numerous other fantastic venues around the country, and even picked up our fourth member Hakushi Yunioshi San - our brand spanking new live drummer. 2008 was a tough year for Hakushi who suffered a T8 level spinal injury at the start of 2008 leaving him paralysed from the waist down. However, the Yunioshi spirit is strong and he has reinvented drumming from his wheelchair! While he was away for 7 months of spinal rehab we did a few things without him. Our premier Maida Vale session recorded in April as part of BBC Introducing. This was quickly followed by flying to Iceland to play a show in Reykjaviks famous Organ venue. We then played the Introducing stage at the Middle of Nowhere festival. In 2009 we played Summer Sundae second stage (De Montfort Hall) and Splendour festivals. In 2010 we played at the prestigious Iceland Airwaves festival and in 2011 fly to Toronto to play Canadian Music Week. We also had more tracks used on the telly - Thunderbird and Lets Go! were used by Setanta Sports football coverage. Thunderbird also appears on a compilation released by Lo Recordings / Universal in 2009, which is where it was picked up by Comedy Central and used for all their South Park new season TV ads!

Yunioshi 2011: Further and further and more and more
We are currently writing our fourth EP which begins where we left off with How To Survive A Robot Uprising. Big style beats and thumping electro meet stabbing guitars and drifting harmonies. Following on from Iceland Airwaves in October 2010 we have really developed our love of festivals both in the UK and abroad. We are starting the festivals early in March as we trek to Toronto to play the Canadian Music Week. We are aiming to play more festivals in 2011 - especially in the UK and are hoping to return to Reykjavik of Airwaves'11 in October. Our new website will be up and running soon and we welcome our new manager Chris to the family. So in 2011 expect more music, more cakes, more air miles and more festivals! Thank you for being with us this far!
