Natif de la région de Sorel, Yves Boisvert a fait ses études musicales au Conservatoire de Trois-Rivières, avec Thomas Cavanagh (percussionniste à L'O.S.M), au camp musical d'Orford avec Jean-Guy Plante (percussionniste de la S.M.C.Q), au centre d'art de Banff avec Marvin « Smitty » Smith (Batteur au Tonight Show), et enfin, à l'Université Concordia avec Lou Williamson (WO/CF/RCA Band).
Son parcours débute alors qu’il a 16ans et qu’il est recruté par Plume Latraverse. Deux albums (« All dress » en 1978 « Chirurgie plastique » en 1979) et plusieurs tournées en Europe s’en suivent.
En parallèle, il enregistre un album live avec Édith Butler (Live in Paquettville) 1980.
En 1981, il débute une tournée de deux ans avec le groupe Morse Code suivit d'un album en anglais (Code breaker) réalisé par Ed Stasium (The Ramones et Talking Heads).
En 1985, avec le Trio François Bourassa, il remporte le concours du FIJM. De nombreuses tournées suivent partout dans le monde (Russie, Corée, Espagne, Mexique, France, Hollande, Belgique, Allemagne, New York, Washington, Vancouver, Edmondton, Toronto, Montréal, et partout dans la province de Québec avec ce Trio.
Il enregistre successivement cinq albums (Reflet 1, Jeune vieux jeune, Echo, Cactus, Live in Toronto) avec le trio de jazz François Bourassa dont le cinquième s’est vu décerné un Juno Award en 2002 à Toronto pour le meilleur album de l'année dans la catégorie jazz contemporain.
En 1991, il fait une tournée suivie d’un album (Wild Unit) avec Michel Cusson (UZEB).
En 1994, il part en tournée avec Marie-Denise Pelletier.
En 2004, il participe au projet « Logos » du contrebassiste Frédéric Alarie qui réunit 14 musiciens sur scène.
En 2005, il enregistre, au côté de Éric Lagacé et John Roney, un hommage au grand pianiste Bill Evans qui est présenté à la Maison de la Culture Frontenac et radiodiffusé sur les ondes de Radio Canada.
Depuis maintenant 18 ans, il se consacre à la composition et à l'enseignement de la musique (batterie et technologie musicale, enregistrement en studio).
Il a entre autre enseigné à la Polyvalente Fernand-Lefebvre de Sorel, au Cégep de Trois-Rivières et il est présentement professeur au Cégep Marie-Victorin à Montréal.

Hi Yves, Thanks you so much for your kind words, I am going to have to believe you :) but truly I have work to do....I'm spending a lot of time just playing sticking patterns on hihat and cymbal these days, and developing them, it's fun and I may upload a few.... You are 100% correct about the heart, more than anything it is the source of inspiration, as your playing illustrates :) Shame I can't get a copy of Blastick, please leave it posted! Hi Yves, yes, the Jojo Mayer stuff is ridiculous.....I can't aspire to that :) But your playing is so much more musical, and I can't get enough of Blast Stick, the invention in there is stunning :) I have to get a copy of this, which album and where from? Best Wishes, Les :)
