Mocidade Escola de Samba in Rio de Janeiro and Olodum in Salvador Bahia
Zabumba! has it roots in the carnival rhythms of Brazil and New Orleans. It all started when a few guys got together to play samba for New Orleans Mardi Gras about 10 years ago. Moved from New Orleans to Asheville, Zabumba! is a new and exciting community based drum group. We play the rhythms of Mocidade of Rio de Janeiro and Olodum of Bahia just to name a couple. The group's director is Allen Frost who has studied samba both in Brazil and with Jorge Alabe' and Casa Samba of New Orleans.
Watch for info on an AfroBrasilian / Samba Reagae workshop to be given by Dende'in a couple of weeks here in Asheville. (he's one of our myspace friends). He is from Bahia, now living in NYC and is a former member of Timbalada.
Thank you for coming to Bobo... I don't think I told you guys this but I really enjoyed you guys at the Mundo Real Benefit, it was very exiting to hear Brazilian percussion so far from Brazil. I hope to see you soon. Jimmie
Welcome to MySpace and congrats on bringing more Brazilian beats to the south! If any of you are up here in Nashville, come sit in on our gigs. We would love to have you play with us.
