Sometimes, people make things look effortless. We call them ‘naturals,’ or ‘prodigies.’ Zachary Lucky is one of those blessed few.
Music in this day and age seems to be a dime a dozen. Tacked up and stapled to every bare inch of telephone pole, tucked away in every corner of every venue, and scribbled on burned CD’s jammed in disc drives everywhere are the worlds ‘next big thing,’ it seems. In a society and a culture where we are spurned on by materialism and achievement, Lucky is, seemingly, a red amongst a sea of blue. His inspiration is simply an act of giving. His music gets alongside you, accompanying you throughout your day. There is a sincerity in his words, and an optimism in his melody. Lucky manages to communicate his messages of beauty and hope with an unstrained ease.
It is a strange world that we live in when we credit people for their honesty, as if it is a gift, or an unnatural accomplishment. That being said, Zachary Lucky bares his soul in his music. He performs his shows with a consistency; his eyes always shut, but never painfully pressed. His words are clear, relatable, and close to your heart. Rather than get lost in striving to become something different, Lucky trusts and knows that he already is, and allows his natural self to be given to you in his music.
If you were to ask Lucky about his musical influences, it would come as no surprise that they are all about more than music. Sufjan Stevens, for example: An ingenious composer, a masterful lyricist, but perhaps even more, he is an artist giving new birth to age-old ideas. The same can be said for Zachary Lucky. Though he did not invent the wheel, he certainly is a pioneer in new ways to spin it. Ways that inspire you to live, and not just be alive. Ways that have you happily reminiscing, and tearfully being reminded of who you once were and who you now are.
