His mother and father have described his music as “good.” His brother has also bought one of his CDs. His grandmother enjoys his music, but occasionally has trouble understanding the lyrics.
Who is this young troubadour, so moderately adored by his own family? It is none other than Zach Vinson. Hailing from the frigid tundra of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Vinson sweetly sings his indie pop-rock melodies to thaw frozen bodies, both his and yours. "In an era of pretentious rock stars, Mr. Vinson is a true treat--a down-to-earth, humble individual who seems truly unaware of his own brilliance," writes Vinson in the third person.
Both his mother and grandmother make casseroles that he thoroughly enjoys, in particular the one with the noodles, corn, hamburger, and cream of mushroom soup. But while his family is cooking up the dinner, Vinson is keeping busy mixing together another one of his delectable musical treats, letting all the ingredients simmer together to his liking before tossing it all in the oven and turning up the heat. Try a taste—you may not know quite how to explain the sensation, but you will certainly be back for more.
Vinson has had the honor of sharing the stage with the likes of Sleeping at Last, Ellery, the Tide, Bernard, Coolhand Luke, Farewell Flight, Vigilantes, Theodore, Cedarwell, Winter Took His Life, TaughtMe, Drew Danburry, and a distant relative of former NBA great Jack Sikma.
What people are saying about Zach and "Cracked Open":
"Zach Vinson generates musical sparks with deliciously inventive indie pop/rock in the mold of Ben Folds, but with distinctive hues. [...] I'm more than impressed."
--John Sinkevics, Grand Rapids Press
"'Cracked Open' is easily the best album this house has put out in years."
--Mat Churchill (Zach's roommate)
"From catchy guitar riffs and driving percussion to sections of slower piano, the album spans broad musical genres while remaining in a distinct style. [. . .] 'Cracked Open' is an excellent release for anyone who enjoys the limitless reach of indie music done well."
--The Herald, Grand Rapids, MI
"Zach Vinson has the personal dynamic of a heart-felt-heart-wrenching
poet and quirky instrumentalist."
--Kate Krause (owner of Paradigm, Sheboygan, WI)
"Man, when you strum guitar, your right hand is poetry!"
--Tom Willett (Assistant Director of the Contemporary Music Center, former VP at Sony Music)
"'Christee Christee' [...] is further proof that there aren't any songs with girls names in the title that don't rule."
--WYCE 88.1, Grand Rapids, MI
"If Rufus Wainwright and Pete Yorn mated, Zach Vinson could be their vocal-stealing baby."
--Melissa Walther (WMSE 91.7 - Milwaukee)
"And you should hear him play the piano! Wow, what a gift! I love it when his hands are flying over the keys."
Yeah just read that comment you were talking about. Definitely crazy what sugar and sleep depravation will do to a guy.
As for the fighting, yeah it was around when I was a kid, big style. My home town Portadown was one of the hot spots. The town centre was blown up about 2 or 3 times and I remember a car bomb going off about 5 or 6 doors down from us. We also used to get problems with this centuries old annual protestant parade that had been using the same route since it started which was through what was now a catholic area, then from mid nineties it was banned from going through and so the police and army had to put up a barricade but the LVF (protestant terrorist group) started bringing down guys from belfast to attack the barricade with bricks and petrol bombs, and the first year they went round parts of the town highjacking trucks, diggers, etc and lighting them on fire. Whole bunch of it went on round the corner from my house. I remember walking past some flaming diggers with my mum to go to the supermarket (which was looted by guys in balaclavas just as we were leaving). Eventually the army started bringing in jeeps with belgian water cannons to calm the whole situation down. So was kinda crazy. Most people pretty much booked a 'convenient' holiday for that time every year.
However like I say its been completely peaceful since the start of the decade. Kinda dull now to be honest haha.
Anywho, yeah, listened to that song again, really special man. when I get a debit card type thing up and running, if I bought a CD, would you be willing to post to ireland?
Haha, thanks! I actually read your whole "about me" thing and wished that I had come up with it sooner. ;]
But I found you through the Revolution Music Group's page; they've been helping me set up some shows recently. Where did you play in Kalamzoo? I always check around for local shows and I'm kind of surprised that I didn't notice you were playing there.
You understand! =] haha you're completely right... i am very lonely at Cornerstone when it comes to musical taste. I have yet to run into anybody who knows what I'm talking about when i start talking about music, books and movies that i love.
Thanks for the comments. Really appreciate it. BTW really lovin' the new tune. Those lyrics are very raw to the point of being difficult to listen to but full of a lot of integrity. It's on my list, so good job! As for the rain, yeah can get you down, but can also have some good points. It's tended over the years to keep people indoors on those blustery nights. That plus the 'downness' driving them to God, literature, art, music... or Guiness! Probably why we've got ourselves a history of saints, scholars, and artists, most of whom were drunk as a skunk (well let's hope not the saints, also on a side note I don't think we have skunks over here). Plus up north we have the added bonus of terrorism. Nothing fills up the boredom of those rainy nights or that vast empty cravass of the soul left by socio-religious hardship, like a warm fire with an AK-47 beside it, a hot mug o' tea with 'I HEART IRA' written on the side, some good old fashioned militant left-wing marxist literature, and a homemade batch of nitroglycerin bubbling away on the stove. Anywho, bit of random commentage there, but I'm blaming the inability to sleep and it being 5.17 am here at the moment. But in all seriousness it's pretty nice round these parts and actually a VERY peaceful place since the peace process kicked in this decade. You should come over and do some gigs man.

Depends. Southern California is out of my jurisdiction, but all cameras lost at rest stops in Northern California are sent immediately to me. So...possibly.
