When looking for who could be the next big thing in the world of singer/songwriters, one can’t overlook Zack Freiwald, a burgeoning performer of Americana/Roots music today. Just like the singers of old, Freiwald performs alone on the stage, with only his guitar and voice to carry him.
Freiwald has paid his dues and earned acclaim from west to east coasts with personable performances of his songs that speak of the human condition and the world today. “down drinking at the bars, trying to dance with a younger man, not gettin’ no where, going home lonely in her car.” — from “Ain’t It Just the Way” by Zack Freiwald
Freiwald began his career in coffeehouses and small venues along the northern California coast, where he became a regular and an audience favorite. He quickly moved up to larger venues as well, including performances as the opening act for some of today’s best new folk acts including Canada’s James Keelaghan and Alabama’s Dave Potts.
Being born among the redwoods and raised in the small ocean side town of Crescent City, CA, Freiwald’s music is made up of those stories of love and the common man struggling to get by that is so prevalent to the area, as well as tales from an older age. “Ain’t your company and this ain’t California, but it feels good just the same. The air is still and I ain’t worried ‘bout gettin’ killed, ‘cause nobody here knows my name.” — from “Gallup” by Zack Freiwald. Such topics are what made up the songs of his first self-produced album, “Into the Sea.” Since his first release he has added an additional three self-produced albums to his catalog. Zack is currently working on a new studio album that is scheduled to be finished and released on his newly started Free Forest Records label in January of 2009.
Freiwald has spent the past several years writing new songs and honing his performance skills in Tar-heel country haunts, Alaskan bars and universities as well as a myriad of places in between. Zack has also made appearances on several public radio programs including folk, local and even bluegrass radio programs. With his past employment as a Park Ranger and Wildland Firefighter subsiding Zack feels he is now able to fully realize his potential as a performing artist. Zack Freiwald is looking forward to the days ahead, with a cross-country tour of several states is in the works for later this year to top his continuing performances throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Zack- Sorry we didn't make it to Gold Beach, I went down for a nap in the afternoon and never got up! Hope we catch you again before I leave for the city!
