Zack Lober is a native of Montreal, Canada. His musical studies began with professor George Doxas at Lindsay Place High School where he studied the cello and electric bass. From there, his studies continued at Vanier College, where he graduated with a degree in music on electric and acoustic bass. He graduated from McGill University in June 2000 with a Bachelor of Music degree majoring in Jazz Performance with high distinction in Jazz Bass. He is currently living in New York City after completing a Masters degree in Jazz Performance at the Manhattan School of Music.
He has studied privately with bassists Harvie S, Mark Helias, Don Thompson and George Mitchell and attended the 2000 and 2001 editions of the Banff Centre for the Arts International Jazz Workshop. He has performed locally and internationally with such established artists as Dave Binney, Chris Potter, Donny McCaslin, Dick Hyman, Kenny Werner, Seamus Blake, Ben Monder, Ingrid Jensen, Benoit Charest, and John Stetch. In June 2004 Zack participated as a substitute for Charlie Haden at a rehearsal for the Liberation Music Orchestra’s Montreal concert.
Presently, Zack can be seen performing and touring with numerous New York and Montreal based groups in the jazz and pop/rock field including BYPRODUCT, a trio he co-leads with Jim and Chet Doxas and THE STORY with Lars Dietrich, Samir Zarif, John Escreet and Greg Ritchie.
