ZacPoor's influences range from Bowie to Mcknight, Vandros to Steven Tyler. He draws from Hip-hop & pop, soul & jazz; from all he is inspired. Looks up to JT and Garth... many does he admire.
Pop rock powerhouse Zac Poor is setting up his plan for musical domination. His modern flavors, structured and presented with respect to tradition, zap one's aural taste buds with electric zing, real musical sting. Poor is an artist who comes toting a unique personality and whose individuality shines through in his music, offering both artistic taste and fully accessible entertainment value.
Vulnerability
Says Poor, Music makes me vulnerable. But while the macho type might write that off as a sign of weakness, it is, in fact, a sign of strength and exactly the sort of thing music is supposed to do. It takes a brave artist to use the full power of music to open himself up; how else can contact be truly made between artist and fan? Only the strongest musician has the talent and artistic muscle to bare the soul and do it well. Poor is one such musician. He recognizes the need for open communication in song otherwise why bother? Music IS communication. Music is expression. It can display everyone's emotion. That is why music relates. And the relationship, that unique connection, that exists via music requires heart on sleeve, artistic honesty and emotional intelligence. "I am truly me when it comes to my music," he says. "I am real and true when I perform my own music and sing my own words.
Past Builds Future
The past is a great teacher but it's also a terrific muse. Great songwriting is based on personal experience i.e. the events and subsequent emotional responses that have built one's ideas and personality. Shallow songwriting may get away without consulting the past, but profound art requires an understanding of and reflection on the past as a way of using art to shape the future. "I am continually influenced by the past as I attempt to create the future." Poor crafts rich songs by reaching into his past without fear (remember the communication) and also stimulates musical contact with his fans by seeking out the universal truths of past experience, those elements of life common to all people regardless of the difference in experiential details. "My songs are both inspired by my own life experiences and those of others around me ... For a songwriter, everything must inspire you so you life is not the only thing on display. If it was, not everyone could relate."
The Artist at Work
Slated for a New Year's 2008 release, a new album will move into the recording stages come July. Poor will be working with an Emmy-nominated producer to craft his latest musical effort. Poor will be gigging at the Fontana Raceway in June and is scheduling a U.S. Tour to begin next summer. He collaborates with two amazing guitarists, Zook Miller and Cam Rindal, on much of his work. "I am currently completing arrangements for a live album in July." He is working with A&R Select, the leading indie A&R firm in Hollywood, CA.
Review
Pop hooks have never felt this good or had this much to say. Poor really speaks through his rock-n-roll, rather than just rolling beats and standard tunage off the assembly line. - A&R Select
