„Genius electro-progrock from Eastern Europe. Zsager is a cool guy, but on the stage he becomes fucking nuts!“
Alan McGee (Creation Records / Poptones UK)
Part of the burgeoning Eastern European electronica scene, Hungarian band Zagar started
out as three-fifth of the Yonderboi Quintet. After a few years and some critical success, keyboard player Balázs Zságer (Zagar’s namesake), guitarist Andor Kovács and scratcher Dj Bootsie splintered off to form their own sound, eventually adding drummer Tibor Lázár and bassist Ákos Zságer-Varga to round out the group. The newer sound somewhat more experimental and tough much of the aesthetic is complementary.
After a hugely successful (and highly acclaimed by the Hungarian media) debut album, Local Broadcast, the band shifted into some soundtrack territory, releasing the backing to a local feature, Eastern Sugar. They has branched into further soundtrack scoring opportunities, most notably in the American CSI series. They were nominated for the Regional Award in the MTV European Music Awards 2009. Zagar were supported Depeche Mode at the Budapest leg of the Tour of the Universe 2009.
Their latest album the Cannot Walk Fly Instead entered the top 10 charts immediately in Hungary. Its first single "Wings of Love", featuring the Underground Divas - six of Hungary's most popular independent singers - earned heavy radio airplay and secured a no1. spot on MTV's video chart. They have earned numerous awards for this record, most notably the Hungarian Record Industry’s Fonogram Award and second prize in the International Songwriting Competition 2008. Now they release their latest album with 12 Wings of Love remixes worldwide on Mole Listening Pearls.
