"great feel....a really musical approach" Luke Doucet www.lukedoucet.com"
"Zander Lamothe plays percussion in a lyrical and natural rhythmic sense that always seems to accent the message of the music. At the age of 15, he's already putting experienced drummers out of work. His passion for learning is unrelenting, he’s only going to get better." David Gillis www.davidgillis.com
"He's a fine and groovy drummer, indeed, but the young chap needs a haircut..." Vivian Campbell www.viviancampbell.com
Zander Lamothe was born in Los Angeles, California. His life introduced him to the road early and brought him to Hamilton, Ontario at the age of 3. A year later he was on stage performing with his dad at clubs and festivals, playing hand drum, singing and sometimes playing a little guitar. At 7, he played on the main stage of Festival of Friends in front of hundreds of people.
When Zander was 9 he got a spontaneous drum lesson from Punk legend Jack Pedlar in the studio where Jack was doing a session for a Ray Materick CD. It was shortly after that Zander decided to focus his musical aspirations on drums and percussion.
By the time Zander was 15, he was playing regularly with Rob Lamothe at festivals and other venues. He recorded drums on a demo for Ariana Gillis and also on singer-songwriter Mary Simon’s album. He played with Ariana at many venues including Winterfolk, Summerfolk, and Hugh's Room and they filmed a music video in April 2007, directed by Tim Dashwood (ROCKED: Sum41 in the Congo). In May of 2007, Zander boarded a transatlantic flight and accompanied Rob Lamothe on a tour that had them performing at venues in the UK, Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands.
In the summer of 2009, Zander toured with Toronto's Desperate Union opening up for Silverstein, CKY and the Envy. This tour took Zander from coast to coast, across Canada. The band then travelled to Chicago's Groovemaster Studios to work with Grammy nominated producer Johnny K. who is best known for his work with Disturbed, 3 Doors Down, Finger 11, and Plain White T's. Around the same time Zander shot his second music video “between” with Rob Lamothe, again directed by Tim Dashwood.
Zander is endorsed by Istanbul Agop and Alchemy Cymbals.
Dude it was refreshing to watch you drum last night...a lot of guys are only interested in showboating and forget about playing by feel and playing for the tune. As far as I'm concerned that's all I look for in a drummer. You'll go far if you stick to it...see you on down the road.
