MELODIE: Volksweise (traditional) O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
wie treu sind deine Blätter!
Du grünst nicht nur
zur Sommerzeit,
Nein auch im Winter, wenn es schneit.
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
wie treu sind deine Blätter!
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!
Du kannst mir sehr gefallen!
Wie oft hat nicht zur Weihnachtszeit
Ein Baum von dir mich hoch erfreut!
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!
Du kannst mir sehr gefallen!
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!
Dein Kleid will mich
was lehren:
Die Hoffnung und Beständigkeit
Gibt Trost und Kraft
zu jeder Zeit.
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!
Das soll dein Kleid
mich lehren. English
O Christmas Tree
Literal English translation - HF
Traditional melody
O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree
How loyal are your leaves/needles!
You're green not only
in the summertime,
No, also in winter when it snows.
O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree
How loyal are your leaves/needles!
O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree
You can please me very much!
How often has not at Christmastime
A tree like you given me such joy!
O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree,
You can please me very much!
O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree
Your dress wants to
teach me something:
Your hope and durability
Provide comfort and strength
at any time.
O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree,
That's what your dress should
teach me.
O Tannenbaum, du bist ein grünes Reis

THE ORIGINAL CHARLESTON: by CECIL MACK & JIMMY JOHNSTON
Charleston, charleston
Made in Carolina
Some dance, some prance
I'll say better than finer
Than the charleston, charleston
Boy, how you can shuffle
Every step you do
Leads to something new
Man, I'm telling you
It's a lopazoo
Buck dance, wing dance
Will be a back number
But the charleston
The new charleston
That dance is surely a comer
Sometime
You'll dance it one time
That dance called the charleston
Made in South Caroline
Buck dance, wing dance
Will be a back number
But the charleston
The new charleston
That dance is surely a comer
Sometime
You'll dance it one time
That dance called the charleston
Made in South Caroline

JAZZ SIGNS OF THE TIME, IN 1929? MOOD INDIGO 2008?
You have not been blue; no, no, no. You have not been blue,
Till you've had that mood indigo. That feelin' goes stealin' down to my shoes
Since my baby said goodbye.
In the evenin' when lights are low,
I'm so lonesome I could cry.
'Cause there's nobody who cares about me,
I'm just a soul who's
bluer than blue can be.
When I get that mood indigo,
I could lay me down and die.

Liebesgedichte und Studentenlieder
Johann Sebastian Bach Johannes Brahms and many other composers have recieved a great wealth of melodies and inspirations from the student songs. As a composer, I too have benifited from these songs. Thus I embarked on creating a new Kommersbuch arrangement of these songs, taking them to the next level of artsong. These recordings will be available on the upcoming English version CD "Zane Zirkle: German University Student Songs." and the German version of the CD: "Die Deutsche Üniveristät Studentenlieder" There will also be sheet music available in a bi-lingal English-German score as well as a Karoke CD. Here is the upcoming song list of the music CD:

But oh, you haunted me so
Still my tongue tied, young pride
Would not let my love for you show
I case you say no
To russia I flew but there and then
I suddenly knew you'd care again
My running around is through
I fly to you, from russia with love
