Zanillya Maria Farrell better known as Zanillya was born on May 2nd 1983 in Hanover Germany; to an Aruban Father and Gypsy Mother. She is a rapper, poet and actress that started her life in entertainment at the mere of 3. Being exposed to arts at a very young age, she enters a local ballet school which became the place where she was taught the foundation for her life in entertainment.
As she battled about what to focus on most, Zanillya decides to audition for Amsterdam’s all-round theater program DNA. The one year program took her through an extensive and intensive year of self-discovery also leading to her participating in the 5’Oclock Dance program. Having trained in these programs, it’s not until her producer at the time Nescio introduces her to the Dutch Rapper Blaxtar. He offers Zanillya to come on board as his back up act.
Finishing a national tour with Blaxtar, Zanillya meets producer and musician Orville Breeveld. The two find a magical chemistry and before long record the track, 'Laat Gaan'. Shortly after she meets producer Daniel van Wissekerke with whom she finds a similar chemistry and records the track 'Bula Bai'. This song became an instant success gaining international notice on both Arubian and Dutch airwaves and becoming available on ITunes. Zanillya also gains notice, through her MySpace page by Swiss producers Willy Sunshine and Oddrock. They collaborate on the songs ‘Gimme’ and ‘Days Pass So Fast’ both songs also featured Zanillya’s friend and singer/songwriter Tash. The songs were featured on the Japanese release for the record, Food For your Soul.
Her frequent appearances lead to several offers to perform around the country and Zanillya is soon found performing on stages, including, The Heineken Music Hall, Black Magic Woman Festival, Uitmarkt, Dunya and Crimejazz just to mention a few.
A couple noted highlights also include her performance for the Dutch, the opportunity to perform in the Amsterdam Arena for the 2009 Suriprof’s and a performance at Rotterdam's Carnival’s main stage; an event that was attended by more than 200.000 people and confirmed that Zanillya was gaining success and establishing her music career.
Currently attending the Rock Academy for her Bachelors in Music, she is also in negotiations with a label and working on new material to release her debut recording in 2010. Aiming to not only launch a successful music but also a acting career. As she lives by a Quote from Gandhi, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world”, Zanillya’s journey to be the change begins!
