Yes....I do like music! I don't know why I should not. My favorite kinds of music are from North African artists, and Sufi artists. I also like American Gospel music and the old stuff that was called R&B back in the day. I have alot of likes of music, too many to name artists.
Sometimes music brings back painful memories and sometimes it brings joy and warmth to me. The song that brings my saddest memories is "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted" by the former Temptation's vocalist David Ruffin. The song that is most emotional to me is "Dance With My Father Again" by Luther VanDross. The song that makes me happiest to me is any one of any genre that makes ya wanna move. The song that gives me hope is "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong...
"I hear babies cry...I watch them grow...They'll learn much more...than I'll ever know...and I think to myself...what a wonderful world".
About me: Asalymu 'alaykum...I was born in al Qunaytirah Province, Syria.(now called the Quneitra Crossing) My father is of Arab decent, and my mother is of South Asian desent. Unfortuantly, my home town no longer exists. I lived in Ar Raqqah Province, Syria for about 10 years. I came to this great land in 1974, and became an American citizen in 1997. I did not want to leave home but now happy to come here with my husband. I have been married 42 years. I have 2 sons and a daughter, and 9 grandchildren.
I cherish my American citizenship greatly. I think that it is the duty of all who have benefited from those who have come before us to make us the nation we are now to participate in it's course. I think it is important to vote and add my voice to the many who shape this land. My voice may be tiny, but in times like these, we need to come together to stand against, and shout down those who would trade thier liberty and privacy for safety. In the end we get neither, and all of us suffer the lash of the master we have unwittingly sold ourselves too.
I also belive that if Muslims do not speak against those who "hijack" our faith and turn it into a justification for murder and violence, the evil ones become our unintentional representitives in a land where Islam is foreign to most. We also let those who hate Islam "fill in the blanks" with their readiness to vilify Islam and all of us together with their propaganda of competing ideology.
I think that these kinds of forums are good for that. All voices, without regard to politics should be heard. Our democracy needs to be big enough to accomidate the many opinions, and also big enough to disagree in frank debate without defamation of charater or destruction of reputation.
Who I'd like to meet: Firstly, this page is not for advertising. I do not promote videos or music sites unless I like them. I certianly do not promote things and people that are disrespectful of my beliefs as a Muslimah, illegal, degrading, or hateful to others. If I find these things, I will delete them ,and the person who placed them there from my friend's list. I undestand that while you have the right to express yourself freely, you do not have the right to impose your thoughts upon the private space of others. In other words, please honour your right to express yourself freely by thinking about what you do and say.
I really set this posting up make cyber friends with other women, but especially Muslimahs (peace loving regular people of course now) who just want to be friends. However, as I become more aquainted with this type of forum, I will engage more in it's web of diversities.
