ZAPP String Quartet is an extraordinary string quartet specialized in playing improvised music, jazz, rock, ethnic music, contemporary music and all kinds of combinations of these styles. Classical music has a long string quartet tradition, but ZAPP adds its own groovy way of playing and percussion techniques to it, which enables them to sound like a heavy rock band, a Bulgarian folk group or a bebopping jazz band for that matter. All the members of ZAPP have a background in improvisation and they all compose or arrange music for the quartet. Additionally, composers from the Netherlands and abroad regularly compose for ZAPP New Project: PECULIAR In 2008 Zapp presents an American-Canadian program in which the quartet will play new exiting compositions (or arrangements) by John Scofield, Mike Keneally, Allan Gilliland, Brent Fischer, Mark Feldman and many more.
