ZEF NOI$E has been playing violin since 6 years old. Born in New York City and raised in Hoboken ,NJ . Now lives in Sugar Hill section of Harlem, NYC while maintaining a recording studio in Newark, NJ.
Singer, violinist, lyricist, recording artist, improvisor, multi-instrumentalist, producer. Founding member of MUTINY ZOO RECORDS, an artist run company specializing in groove based music from Drum & Bass, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Electro, Industrial, Rock, Psychedelic, Free and Experimental.
Original member of; Sweet Lizard Illtet (Warner Brothers), ILLNESS, NyQwill & Fleshtest. Has Performed or recorded with; MadHappy, Backworld, Blestenation (Geffen), Genesis P-Orridge, Bonfire Madigan, PsychicTV, Firewater, Alex Elena, Seth Tobocman, Moe. DJ Logic, Suphala (Tommy Boy/Rasa), J.Ralph (Atlantic), Perry Robinson, Herbie Hancock, Philip Glass, John Cage, John Siket, Bob Moses, Billy Martin, Mike Dillon, Grand Mixer DST and lots of other badass artists. 2006 ZEF wrote music for "The Art and Crimes of Ron English" documentary from Harvest Moon. ZEF’s music has also been featured in other film documentaries, television and tv commercials.
Collaborated with traditional Buryat singers, performed in and composed music for the play, "Warriors Sister", in 2003 with Yara Arts Group at La MaMa Theater in NY.
ZEF often collaborates with visual and multimedia artists as well as activists. Collaboration is key to his creative thought. Sound, images and ideas co-mingle to manifest the new. He played at an event with Keith Haring at the age of sixteen and has been involved with visual artists ever since. Installations and works with; Ron English, Seth Tobocman & Art For Progress as well as numerous sonic gallery environmental performances.
ZEF’s performance ranges from slow and sexy to high energy, passionate and angry. He loves what he does and makes his violin sound beautiful and harsh all at once, emulating sounds of the environment and of nature. "[Zef] approaches the violin and viola with passion and a Rock&Roll attitude as well as the aesthetics of street art and breakdancing. "
Currently doing solo performances worldwide with loop pedals and laptop beats. ZEF expresses a full range of emotion as a singer, a unique string player and a performer of the psychedelic-industrial evolution of jazz and rock music.
Featured on the new PsychicTV record, "Hell is invisible Heaven is Her/e" (Cargo), ZEF will be touring throughout the year with PTV3.
