I am drawn to the painting styles of Henry Ossawa Tanner, Alma Woodsey Thomas, Georgia Okeefe, and Paul Cezanne among others.
I am a mixed media artist and graphic designer. My work is figurative/representational, symbolic, and at times socio-political. For the most part my work is a reflection of all things spiritual that take place in our daily activities. It is my goal to represent how spirituality is manifested in everyday activities such as working, dancing, fishing, eating, and gardening/landscaping, living the struggle, etc.
I am drawn to the life force of water, and various other elements in nature, and how they relate and inter-relate with the human form. I am also interested in how humanity observes and interacts with our environment, as well as how spirituality manifests itself in our expressions and gestures.
It is my intention to translate with oil paint and other materials the intensity of spirit that is prevalent in everyday activities. I work with mixed media including but not limited to oil, acrylic, watercolour paints, oil pastels, pastel chalk, collage materials, etc. in my work.
It is my intention to leave a lasting impression of how spiritually intense everyday acts of appreciation can be.
I am greatly influenced by the photography of Chester Higgins, Jr.’s book Feeling the Spirit. I will be using some of his photography as reference material. I will also reference other photography that touches me spiritually.
