As the lead vocalist for C+C Music Factory, Zelma Davis was the voice on nearly every major hit by the mega-hit machine. Some of Zelma’s many hit singles with C+C were “Here We Go (Let's Rock & Roll)", "Things That Make You Go Hmmm...", "Just A Touch of Love (Everyday)", and "Do You Wanna Get Funky".
C+C Music Factory was recognized with four American Music Awards, five Billboard Music Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, one Grammy Award nomination, and several European, Japanese and Australian Music Awards.
Zelma appeared in national advertisements for Coca-Cola and Nicole Miller. Zelma’s television appearances include Saturday Night Live, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Arsenio Hall Show, and Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee. Fame did not come without a price. Despite having sung on 70% of C+C Music Factory's debut album, Zelma found herself wrapped up in a lip-synching scandal after her label directed her to appear in the music video for "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)", which had previously been recorded by Martha Wash. As a result of a lawsuit against Sony, a disclaimer was added to the "Gonna Make You Sweat" video and Zelma was branded a lip-syncher.
Zelma took a sabbatical, coming back only to record C+C Music Factory's second album in 1994, which featured both Zelma and Martha Wash on lead vocals for the single "Do You Wanna Get Funky".
In 1997, Zelma co-wrote and recorded "I'm Calling (Say It Loud)", which was featured on the soundtrack of the award-winning documentary When We Were Kings, a story about boxing legend Muhammed Ali.
In 2008, Zelma & Amber released "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)", a remake of the 1979 Donna Summer / Barbara Streisand classic.
Amber and Zelma's version was produced by Wolfram Dettki aka Pathos V2 and remixed by Solar City.
Zelma will be featured on the upcoming Strictly Rhythm/Defected single "Move Ya Hips" by Havana Funk, and "Rise" by Deep Influence.
