In the 80s John (guitar) and Bill (guitar) had been playing in bands under different configurations doing jam - folk - rock type music for local festivals, parties and clubs. In the mid 80s they met up with Jim, a bongo and conga player. They played music for a while under various names such as Katalyst. In the late 80's, John wrote a poem for a class called, "Zen Fishcamp" and the name stuck to the band. In 1994, John moved to California.
Bill and Jim still played on with different people under other band names until the mid 90s. About 1995 Bill met Guy (guitar) and they musically hit it off. Guy had played in other bands and had the riffs to prove it. There was a very good bass player (Chris C.) Bill, Guy, and Jim, the only element missing was a drummer.
1996 Bill met Dave (drummer) at a local store. The funny thing is Bill had met Dave before when Bill had came out to audition for another local band, but they didn't get in contact again for another year or so after the first meeting. The really funny thing is, when Dave went to go meet the rest of the band he and Guy had known each other for a few years prior and had discussed the possibility of jamming together sometime. Also, Chris C.(bass) and Dave had played in a band together before (wow right?).
They kept the name, "Zen Fishcamp" and off they went to play their blend of music. For a few years they went under that configuration 'til about 1999, when John came back to Florida. The band now had 3 guitarists, a bass player, a percussionist and a drummer. They played out for a while until Chris left the band in 99(?) to explore other pursuits.
Zen Fishcamp went through a few bass players until mid 2002. John stepped up and volunteered to play bass. John had played bass before and it was easy for him to fill the gap.
The real deal is, We are some folks who like to make some noise and provide funky sounds for people to enjoy while relaxing in a "cool" environment around good friends and family..
The latest addition to the roster is Debbie Stewart, who enhances our sound greatly with the addition of her considerable talents ..boards and vocals, while also expanding on the material we draw from. Her melodic talents on the piano have really helped fill in our sometimes spare sound; she is fast becoming a fan-favorite at our gigs.
