Zen Sadist has been playing on the Denver scene since September of 2008 at many of the city’s finest dive establishments, bringing fresh ideas and a new creative voice to the local music scene. Zen Sadist is a band that lives the feelings of peace, chaos, and insanity. The Zen and the Sadist both complement and oppose one another in a synthesis of harmony and dissonance. After all, there can be no light without darkness.
The seed of Zen Sadist was conceived within the mind of lead singer/guitarist Alex Vargas. Alex is currently studying audio engineering at the University of Colorado. With influences from Norwegian Black Metal to Blues and Latin music, He’s got skills that pay the bills and creative edge that’ll pistol whip you.
The second to join ZS was Eric T. Neail, a drummer who plays with heart and soul every time his sticks strike his metronomic mistress. With his Southern California Ska and Punk Rock background, Eric brings to the table a quirky sense of rhythmic intuition and flare.
Then came lead guitarist Aaron DeBoskey, bringing a little Progressive Rock and Gypsy flavoring to the group. Aaron studies guitar in the Jazz program at the Metropolitan State College of Denver, and his luscious licks and adventurous leads rip to the core of anyone who dares to listen.
After trying out 23 idiots with elephant fingers and ears of cheeky monkeys, in
stepped Alexander Bowman. He took to the Bass like a fish takes to vodka, and with his provocative jazz voicings and funky lines, contributed the outrageous undertones they needed to complete their sound.
With a broad range of eclectic influences, they have no fear of taking an unconventional approach to song writing - melding rock with a touch of everything from ska and reggae to jazz, blues, and pop. The dynamics of Zen Sadist mirror life itself, from one end of the spectrum to the other, providing an insightful voice into every realm of existence therein.
Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?
A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:
Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella
Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.
Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.
