About me: Welcome to Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre's MySpace. Zen Zen Zo is Brisbane's signature physical theatre performance and training centre. We aim to recapture the ritualistic power of theatre by combining a striking visual and physical style with raw energy and emotional truth. We have gained a reputation for creating innovative, confronting and often controversial theatre which both excites and challenges its audiences. Our company is heavily influenced by traditional Japanese training methods and styles but is also dedicated to exploring contemporary Australian youth culture. With these two differing influences, Zen Zen Zo has developed a unique style that seems to stand out from other theatre companies. We are raw, energetic and extreme. We love the bare human body, loud music, interesting architecture, light and darkness and real human emotion. We’re interested in stripping back the civilised veneer to explore the underbelly of human life. We also want our audiences to have a very real EXPERIENCE! I thought your performance of Zeitgeist was totally awesome! It's quite possibly the best of all your productions I've seen so far ranging from the silly to the sombre - the Butoh Babies and the club dancers gave me the best laugh I'd had in ages. On the opposite end of the emotional spectrum, I was moved by the vocal perfomance of "Mad World" and "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" - sheer genius, and it's restored my enthusiasm to get Laissez-Fayre up and off the ground again after lying dormant for some considerable time.
The poet whose body I rent – David Stavanger - is trying to deny my very existence & become a “serious” poet by releasing his own book without me (even though I ghost wrote ¼ of the book....the good quarter!). If that wasn’t enough, he also plans to divorce me on the night – literally – claiming I didn’t put out and was nothing but a hackneyed alter-ego! So come along and bring the G-boy love on the night to see me gatecrash this little soiree...also Skye is playing, and she rocks glass hearts!
