"...for all the Tool, Biffy Clyro, and Q.O.T.S.A fans, Ayr's Zetas Empire will have you pogo-ing and throwing your beer all around the place. Well crafted and melodic songs with more guts than a haggis shop." The Knowhere Guide
"...a mix of melodic My Bloody Valentine emotion meeting with the grandiose stage-rock of Oceansize via a jazz indie park ranger station run by the Chemical Brothers." Hellagood
Zetas Empire is a five piece alternative rock band which formed in Ayr, Scotland in 2006. Now based in Glasgow the line-up consists of Andy Akira MacLellan (vocals), Ben Davis (guitars, vocals), Roy Froude (guitars, vocals) Nick Campbell (bass) and Duggie Knight (drums). The band have been described as writing “well-crafted and melodic songs with more guts than a haggis shop”.
Meeting at university, the band started jamming together as a four-piece before asking singer-songwriter Akira to take up vocal duties a week before they played their first gig at Bloc+ in Glasgow. Since then they have gigged throughout Glasgow and Ayr enjoying great crowd responses and a few stage invasions. Each member brings their own musical tastes and styles to the band making the influences of the band an eclectic gathering of genres from metal to dance music and most in-between.
Having taken time out in 2008 to concentrate on University coursework the boys are back in 2009 with new material and the same raw live energy as before.
Currently, recording their first EP and working full-time jobs is taking up all the Zetas time but don't worry as the call of the stage is never far away.

KING KHAN AND THE SHRINES Sun 4th Oct @ Stereo, Glasgow
Support comes from Jack of Hearts Skinflints Uncle Big Bad
"Fusing the driving stomps of classic sixties soul with the muddy yet crunchy guitars and puerile words of garage rock, King Khan & The Shrines are one of those uncommon groups who seem to live in the past and still make an attention-grabbing noise. The Supreme Genius is a retrospective of their work this century from initial 45s through to the cleaner more sophisticated efforts of their last proper album, What Is?!. Soul is certainly a key ingredient in the Shrine's psychedelic stew, though purists would balk at describing the end product as one of their own ('filthy racket' being the likely response). Fans of the 'rock 'n' soul' pedigree stretching from the Kingsmen to The Make Up and The Black Lips, however, should be more accepting, as will anyone who likes their music loud and raucous" BBC Music
