The Zimbabwean Music Festival is an annual celebration of Zimbabwean music and culture. A fun-filled three-day weekend of concerts, workshops, community conversations, a marketplace and more, Zimfest is the largest annual gathering in North America of students, teachers, performers, and fans of Zimbabwean music.
Zimfest 2008 — We are pleased to announce that Zimfest 2008 will be held July 4–6 at the beautiful campus of Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. Prefest will be held on Thursday, July 3. Our Organizing Committee is excited to be a part of this growing community and honored to put on another exciting festival. However, we cannot do it without the help of a diverse group of volunteers. Anything you can do to help make next year’s festival a success will be greatly appreciated.
In addition to new workshop formats such as an advanced youth marimba series to meet the demands of highly skilled youth players, we are bringing back the hugely successful academic/teacher track workshop series from Zimfest 2005 in Bellingham. Also, three members from our committee are currently working on bringing award-winning Zimbabwean mbira group Mawungira Enharira to Zimfest 2008 as part of their first North American tour. If you would like to help with fundraising, benefit concerts, tour itineraries, etc., please do not hesitate to talk to us.
