Since forming in Summer 07’; Zion and The White Boys have produced a Song-writing stack of tracks designed to take their audience on a journey. Desta Zion Wilson, front man, travelled from his home in Bermuda to the UK in the hope of taking his singer-songwriter talents to the next level. It was at collage in Guildford Surrey where he met three fellow students that had a similar Caribbean taste for musical aspiration. With Zion’s Reggae/Roots/Rnb style vocal and relaxed attitude he was destined for friendship and musical partnership with Greg Machon and Dave Pickavance, who were both already great friends and musicians together. After a few twists and turns with various drummers, the conclusion was met that nice guy and drummer Adam Millest would take the backbeat. Like the classic Two Tone mix sound of the late 70’s, Zion’s Reggae/Soul/Roots writing was met with a mix of Ska/Rock/Hiphop from The White Boys to create a truly unforgettable fusion.
They began appearing as Regular feature as a part of Londons, home for Bermudan’s abroad, ‘Spread Luv Live’. Here and in other venues, they set stages alight with their feel good, party anthems that made their audiences heart race and their Body shake with Big Beats, Basslines and Catchy Melodies. The quartet branched out in early 08’ adding in backing vocalists Charlotte Hamson, Amy Eftekhari and Natalie Hamson AKA ‘The Desire’s’ to give their underlying Soulful sound more depth and texture. Also bringing in friend and percussionist Thom Durant to really make that ‘one-drop’ count. Since this point they have played to a wide range of people on various stages and cooking up crowds such as; Beach Breaks, Shepherds Bush Empire, Boiler room and Residents at Epsom’s’ Native Tongue monthly.
Zion and his compadres take influences from everywhere, not just the Western World; to create what they feel is a truly organic home brand of ‘Roots Rock Reggae’ Rhythms. In April 09 they are set to launch their new five track E.P. ‘I Got Love’. Who can wait for what the Future of music holds with this crew of fine Melody and Rudiment makers in the Kitchen?
