Home | JMSprophoto | Lake Erie Speedway | Sharon Speedway | Leaf Racewear | Zip Motorsports was formed in 2004 when the Weller family came together with a silent partner from North Carolina to create a 410 sprint car team to be piloted by 18 year old Jimmy Weller. With long-time sprint car crew chief Jeff McCall leading the operation and the help of crew men Garrett Hood, John Weller, Jim Weller Jr. and Dan Dominick, Zip Motorsports began its tear on local sprint car racing in Western Pennsylvania. Like any team with a rookie driver, the 2004 season had many ups and downs (and tumbles too). However, by the end of the season, the team had racked up countless top 5 and top 10 finishes and 2 feature event wins, 1 coming at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania and the other coming at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio. Zip Motorsports also won the inaguaral Green Flag Sprint Car Championship at Sharon Speedway by winning 4 of the first 6 races. After an awesome beginning, Zip Motorsports took a turn for the worse in October of their inaguaral season at the Dirt Track @ Lowes Motor Speedway. During a USAC National Sprint Car tour heat race, Jimmy caught a rut and flipped violently into the turn 1 wall. While airborne, Jimmy's head slammed a cement pole in the catch fence, knocking him out and fracturing 2 vertebreas in his neck, 3 in his back, collapsing both of his lungs, breaking both of his cheek bones and giving him Phase 3 (the worst type) brain injury. After 3 weeks in the Intensive Care Unit, 4 weeks in the Charlotte Hospital Rehabilitation unit, a screw in his neck, and 2 bars held in by 8 screws running down his back, the grace of God had Weller returning home to continue his rehabilitation and his dream of someday getting back into a racecar. After meeting with some of the most recognized head and back trauma doctors in the country, Jimmy's dream once again became a reality. The only change in the dream came when doctors strongly suggested against sprint cars due to the violent, airborne crashes that they experience so often. Once the clearance was given, Zip Motorsports began looking into other options while they opened up their 2006, "Back with Vengeance" season in Jim Weller Jr's backup dirt modified at Lernerville and Sharon Speedways. Midway through the 2006 season, Zip Motorsports came in contact with veteran crew chief Tim Gilbert and began working on the development of an asphalt late model team to finish out the year running at Lake Erie Speedway and other tracks in the area. ..
