    Christina's Interests
Generalplaying the cello, singing everyday, every hour; recording, performing and listening to music; organizing people and events, striving for creativity and healthy green goodness in the plant, people and spiritual realms around me
MusicIt all started with the Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band & White albums (age 6+). Then moved to the Monty Python songs, Greatest Hits of the 1980's (as tutored by my bro), Simon & Garfunkel, and Harry Connick Jr.
Love swing, jazz, orchestral and choral music. Was a huge fan of Indie and Major Canadian Bands (Spirit of the West,Moxy Fruvous, Jazzberry Ram, Grapes of Wrath, Barenaked Ladies, Blue Rodeo, 54-40, etc).
Always love Fruit, Spearhead, Ben Harper, Ani Di Franco.
Recently I'm loving Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Joanna Newsom, African, Indian and Reggae music.
Since 1997 I have played with and met so many wonderful musicians & writers, that most of my favourite bands and cds are local: Yael Wand & Perpetuum; Cherrybomb, Jenny Galt, Army of Jennys; Glenn Garinther; Leela Gilday; Joey Only Outlaw Band; Pacifika; Kevin Kane; Stephen Fearing; Art of Dying; Ridley Bent; Joel Kroeker; Rae Spoon; Conjure One; Sonic Joy; Sekoya; K'Naan; Sweatshop Union; Kinnie Starr, Yvette Narlock.
The Vancouver held June 2006 World Urban Youth Forum personally introduced me to Norwegian Hip-Hop Superstars: F'em One & Nico and all at PassIt records represent, yo! (Fett!).

I LOVE VILLAGE 900 Radio, CBC Radio One, and Co-op 102.7 FM (CFRO Vancouver).
TelevisionKids in the Hall; This Hour Has 22 Minutes; The Nature of Things; Shaw Cable 4 community programs; Independent Community TV; Arrested Development; Sex in the City; 80's sitcoms- Threes Company; WKRP; etc.
BooksRoald Dahl. BC history. Anthropology books. Stanley Park.
HeroesStephen Lewis; Judy Campbell (CEO Barkerville, Champion of Wells); people fighting poverty, addiction, oppression and depression; my girlfriends, boyfriends, and family; people who create art, community and music.

About me:
My real name is Christina Zaenker, and you can probably figure out the rest from reading on...

I am a cellist, singer, amateur trumpet player, and a bass/ rhythm-playing cellist. I love recording and playing original music.

I have been performing and recording since 1997, and have officially recorded on over 2 dozen albums. I rarely *just* record or play.. When I get involved with someone, I often help organize the shows, promote the gig and spread the word about the artists/ music, because I believe in it.
I take pride in creating events for and with other people, and became hooked to this when my friends and I created a vibrant arts community & event producing collective called the Living Closet (Vancouver, 1998-2001). Now I am a co-producer of an AWARD-WINNING INDIE ARTS & MUSIC festival in Wells, BC- ARTSWELLS FESTIVAL OF ALL THINGS ART. www.artswells.com

My current roster of bands and people play with includes-

*Yael Wand - my musical partner/ friend/ bandmate of many many years: her music and voice is original and inspiring.
*the Joey Only Outlaw Band- my kickass country punk rockabilly band.
*Kevin Kane- of Grapes of Wrath- his songwriting & music remains a compelling part of Canada's emotive soundscape
*Leela Gilday- JUNO for best Aboriginal Album of 2007! Amazing singer & woman from Yellowknife, now a natonal sweetheart. Her 5 piece band is all-star.
*Rae Spoon- the awesome alt-country singer, new album out Fall 2008 (I'm on 3 songs)
*Joel Kroeker- an awesome Canadian songwriter, we recorded a tune for Neil Young's tribute cd on EMI records.
*Jenny Galt, of Army of Jennys- MTV show Rockstar Supernova in July 2006, now launching her pop-electronica album (I'm on it too). A superstar rising.
*Tamara Nile/ T-NILE- banjo funk bluegrass diva, with awesome new album Aug 08 (I'm on 2 songs)
*Wayne Lavallee- Rock 'n Roll Indian Cowboy, award-winning national star, new album Fall 08 (I'm on one song)
*Art of Dying/ Hethro-accoustic- alt-rock band, winner of 2006 CFOX seeds competition, touring internationally
*David Roy Parsons- a great songwriter and musician

My list of people I play with is growing daily, and I would love to add to your music too:) I love to record...

Plastic Acid… Vancouver’s string rock quartet… is doing a show near you at Café Deux Soleil on Friday, Oct. 26. Come out, drink some beer and generally get rambunctious. Please don’t throw food at us, oh alright, but only if it's tasty and there aren't too many bites out of it.
