RECORDING / EDITING / MIXING /
5.1 SURROUND
SOUND
Flower Studios (formerly known as Zircon Skye Production) is an audio recording, editing, mix and
production
facility recently acquired by Greg Penny, renowned producer/engineer/recording artist (well known for his Grammy® award winning work with k.d. lang, Elton John, Cher, Paul Young, Eddie Reader and a host of others) as well as an independent record label (Flower Records) located in the beautiful artistic getaway Ojai, California
(USA); 70 miles
north of Los Angeles. The studio is 5.1 surround-sound
capable.
The
control room, fine-tuned by master acoustician
George Augsperger,
features classic and vintage analog recording equipment (like our 2”
24-track Studer A80 MKII, Solid State Logic (SSL) AWS 900, and Neotek Elite mixing boards)
alongside a fully equipped and up-to-date 192kHz Pro Tools|HD 4 Accel
digital system running on a dual-processor Mac G5, tons of great
plug-ins, and rock-solid Apogee Big Ben 192kHz Master Digital Clock.
Flower Studios also offers mains playback on massive DynAudio M3's driven by a state-of-the-art Lab.gruppen PLM 10000Q power amp; near-field and 5.1 surround system (ADAM S3-A monitors, Genelec
7070A Active Subwoofer, Martin Sound MultiMAX EX controller) playback; and
the Aviom Personal Monitoring solution which gives our clients total
headphone mix control while tracking. We've also added a t.c. electronic M6000 w/ remote
Icon interface for outstanding audio sweetening.
Our
main tracking (1) and isolation rooms (1,
2, and
3) are each set up for optimum
functionality and a unique sound. So whether you need an acoustically tight
treatment for vocal overdubs; a high-ceiling open room for recording a
string ensemble or capturing that “killer” drum sound; or a
MIDI/sampler/looping
station packed with great gear from Kurzweil, Arp, Vox, Wurlitzer,
Roland, Alesis, Electrix, Yamaha, and Hammond complete
with a networked iMac powering a 96k Digi 002 Pro
Tools rig, Flower Studios is well-equipped to meet your
needs. (We can even help find session players.) All of our guitars,
amps, keyboards and drums are available for your use as well!
Greg Penny and Flower Studios' staff engineers/producers
Ken Eros and Jeff
Evans are dedicated to helping you realize your ideas and projects in
the most creative, professional and timely manner possible. Past clients
James Stroud (DreamWorks Records), David Bianco (Tom Petty), Bauhaus, Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, MTV
Networks, Nickelodeon, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Ed
Kowalczyk (Live), Simon & Schuster, producer/engineer Andy
Johns (Led Zeppelin,Rolling Stones), producer/engineer Bruce
Botnick (The Doors), Brett Dennen (Dualtone Music Group),
Robben Ford (Yellowjackets),
Perla Batalla, and Izzy Stradlin -- to name just a few -- have all enjoyed our services.
WELCOME TO OJAI
Just 70 miles north of Los Angeles, 40 miles south of Santa Barbara, and 20
miles north of the beach in Ventura, the Ojai Valley features activities and
experiences available nowhere else.
Nestled within sun-drenched oaks and blooming groves of citrus,
olive and avocado trees; Ojai hosts a magnificent climate, an East/West running mountain
range, natural beauty and awe-inspiring views that are legendary to the artistic
community that loves living here.
Flower Studios is located just blocks from
acclaimed mastering engineer Doug Sax’s new Ojai location for
The Mastering Lab,
and the downtown area. At the center of town is a
Spanish-style
arcade enclosing a wide variety of shops, cafes and art galleries, as well as a
beautiful fountain, pergola and civic park, all bearing the name of Edward D.
Libbey; a wealthy glass manufacturer who successfully set out in 1914 to further
enhance Ojai’s reputation as "...a dream city of soft harmonies, smooth flowing
lines and warm colors."
We invite you to visit our valley and take in all that it has to
offer. While you and/or your clients
enjoy the benefits of our state-of-the-art
studio, let the serenity of Ojai relax and inspire you to
focus on nothing but your art. Besides handling all of your audio needs, our
capable staff can guide you to local food/lodging, art/music supplies,
entertainment, surfing, hiking and exercise for the mind, body and soul -- or
just a place to hang out and chill.
Come experience why we love to live and work here.
