About me: Shachar Tauber, M.D., Board certified ophthalmologist, is recognized as one of the leading cornea and refractive surgeons in the nation. He has performed over 5,000 refractive procedures with excellent results. Dr. Tauber was the medical director for the Yale-New Haven Eye Laser Center, and assistant professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Yale University, and director of Cornea, External Diseases, Contact Lens and Refractive Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut.
He received his undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1983. In 1992, he acquired hi M.D. from Tulane Schoole of Medicine, New Orleans, Louisiana. He went on to complete his residency in the Department of Ophthalmology at Tulane. Dr. Tauber is currently serving as the Director of Ophthalmology Research at St. John's Hospital. He also serves on the board of Unite for Sight, a non-profit global humanitarian organization that tackles eye and health care issues throughout the world.
Who I'd like to meet: A Good LASIK Candidate:
Is over 18 years of age; Is nearsighted, farsighted, with or without astigmatism; Demonstrates appropriate vision stability; Out of contacts two weeks prior, allowing the cornea to return to it's natural shape.
