Greetings from Droma Gypsy Festival 2008!
We are proud to announce our annual Gypsy festival honoring the fearless & creative Romani spirit, as we'd like to call it. Consolidating three years of history into nine-day stretch, the Droma Gypsy Festival 2008 (previously the NY Gypsy Festival) will take place September 24 - October 3 at Drom.
This year's festival is our biggest yet with 16 bands, including 7 international artists, DJs and belly dancers who will be presenting the colorful Gypsy spirit. In its 4th year running, the festival will once again bring the breadth of contemporary Gypsy music from countries like Spain, India, Macedonia, Turkey, France, Germany with a line-up that includes bands which preserve the original musical forms as well as others that mix it up with electronica, jazz, dub and European-style cabaret.

Whether it is Turkish band Baba Zula's unique psychedelic belly-dancing oriental dub music, Dotschy Reinhardt's Gypsy swing, jazz, bossa nova and latin mix, or French nomads Watch Clan, who speed forward through frenetic rhythms rendering homage to their roots in French, Arabic, Hebrew and English, we have a little for everyone in this year's bag of tricks.
