Zach Lupetin and The Royal Family developed organically as a community of musicians in and around The University Of Michigan sharing ideas about music as far reaching as Big Band, Gypsy Jazz, Dixieland, Early Acoustic Blues and 1950's do-wop.
Born in Chicago, Zach Lupetin began writing songs at age 16 on an electric bass. He had many bands including his high school group, Iconoclast that played many clubs in Chi-town but it wasn't until moving to Ann Arbor to study film and creative writing that things really took off. His band The Midnight Special had the privilege of playing Ann Arbor's most cherished venues such as The Michigan theater and The Blind Pig as well performing live on several local radio stations. After three great years and the Midnight Special's demise Zach started seriously pursuing acoustic roots music. His "Folk-abilly" sound - a mix of Americana, Gospel, Blues & Old Time Country truly came into fruition as he began listening to such greats as Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Ralph Stanley, Howling Wolf and many others.
Joined by drummer/producer Mark Swiderski, guitarists Gary Prince & Andrew Klein, stand up bass player Christian Carpenter and Sara Curtin & Theo Katzman on backing vocals, Zach began recording his first solo acoustic album, "Heaven (I'll Meet You There)" in the fall of 2007. The songs tell a story and are embedded with musical history from the jug bands of the 1920's to the protest songs of 1960's to 1940's Swing.
Currently living in Los Angeles, Zach Lupetin has put together a whole new Royal Family and is playing live consistently with the string band THE DUSTBOWL REVIVAL. He has already put the wheels in motion for a second album with the working title "The Atomic Mushroom Cloud Of Love" which will feature an eclectic mix of instruments including fiddle and mandolin.

My Bass Player (Kevin) and I are hosting an Open-Mike Night on Wednesdays at The Venice Bistro in Venice. Right on the Boardwalk, prime location for all the foot traffic to hear you. I'd like to invite you and anyone you know down to play originals or covers. 2-3 songs each musician and we will have a PA, mikes, acoustic guitar, electric piano, and acoustic bass. Should be a lot of fun and a great forum to sell/give away your cd and to network with other local musicians.
Venice Bistro (5:30-10pm) 323 Ocean Front Walk Venice, Ca
