“I believe that Zach Lupetin knows the blues deep down in his soul…his is a timeless, happy sound - a very talented singer.”
Freddy Celis / Rootstime Magazine, Belgium
“…there's always a new sound round the corner and something different to grab your ear. It's good when something comes along that doesn't fit a category, it's even better when it's this good.”
Matt Hutchinson / Americana UK
"Zach Lupetin obviously loves this music and the players match his affection with their technique which results in something utterly charming. Matt Rubin's trumpet work throughout flits around the songs pollinating and stinging, transporting the listener to a black and white life, Dennis Potter, Woody Allen, raising musical eyebrows with a knowing wink. If you want to picture it, think of Clem Snide in a 1930's musical with Eddie Cantor or the soundtrack to an unseen Marx Brothers film and you'll be somewhere near."

"Any band with a tuba, trombone and washboard (among many other wonderful instruments) should definitely be listened to. The LA music landscape is so rich, so innovative, with so many bands taking so many chances to make their sounds heard. As I slid into my spot at the Silverlake Lounge the other night I was reminded of this very fact. This crazy brass concoction, eight piece band, whose sound is way too large for this stage, brought me back to another era. Their music is a throwback to a previous sound, one that littered joyous nights from the west to the east coasts bringing into its merriment all that would be taken hold of by this music. And while I was not alive all those years ago, The Dustbowl Revival does an amazing job of channeling a creative force from the past while making it truly their own as they performed for us...there is a genuine and very organic approach to their sounds, allowing them to play music the only way they know how which is by having tons of fun on stage and making the sounds truly their own. The Dustbowl Revival makes happy music, right to the core, leaving you with a smile on your face."

The Dustbowl Revival is a Venice, CA based folk orchestra. For the last two years they have been playing their homegrown depression-era hillbilly jazz around the west and are close to releasing their second LP, "You Can't Go Back To The Garden Of Eden" which features all ten members of the Dustbowlers with instruments ranging from clarinet, tuba, cornet, trumpet, guitars, mandolin, drums, bass, washboard, harmonica and plenty of Zach's otherwordly whistling. Look for it by the end of the year and if you haven't caught The Dustbowl Revival at one of their barn-shaking shows around L.A. or SF, drop by folks, you are in for a speakeasy treat.
Band leader, scribe and lead singer Zach Lupetin's groundbreaking first LP "The Atomic Mushroom Cloud of Love" made with The Dustbowl Revival, is his most adventuresome and detailed to date. Featuring over ten local folk musicians including fiddle, lapsteel, mandolin, resonator guitar, Nashville guitar, double bass, trumpet and trombone not to mention his father Jeff Lupetin on blues harp and his sister Lila and a host of talented ladies singing harmonies, "Atomic" is a tour of traditional American music steeped in history. A sort of new-wave jug-band, Zach's tunes range anywhere from Dylan-like folk romps, to Sister Rosetta Tharpe gospel stomps to big band ballads, western swing hoe-downs, bebop breakdowns and mariachi fiestas. In short, it's music to make you feel good and snap your fingers to.
Born in Chicago, Zach Lupetin was classically trained on violin but was turned on to blues and folk music by his father and began writing songs at age 16 on an electric bass. While attending The University of Michigan, his blues rock outfit The Midnight Special had the privilege of playing some of Ann Arbor's most cherished venues such as The Michigan theater and The Blind Pig as well performing live on several local radio stations and NPR Detroit.
After three great years and the Midnight Special's demise Zach started seriously pursuing more traditional acoustic roots music. He released "HEAVEN, I'LL MEET YOU THERE" with his Ann Arbor group The Royal Family, fusing traditional Americana, Gospel, Blues & Old Time Country with the sounds of Dylan, Ralph Stanley, Howling Wolf and many others.
After moving to Los Angeles, Zach Lupetin has put together The Dustbowl Revival and has played hundreds of dates across California and beyond.

On Oct 3, a fantastic gathering occurred within a cafe-sized room canopied by trees. The Gypsy Camp is a long-visited place within El Escorpion Park in West Hills - long overdue to be utilized as a unique venue for live music.
It was the beginning of a new series of acoustic shows that bring bands out of bars and clubs, friends and musical enthusiasts out of the house on a saturday afternoon, and a unique and magical experience to everyone involved.
If this looks like a good time to you, please tell people about it, and join us for Gypsy Camp The Second on Saturday, Nov. 14. Prepare yourself with a cooler and blanket and an afternoon to enjoy some great music.
