| About Zoe Francis |
|
Zoe started off as a musician at age three. Living in cold Canada taking up the violin, she began her life as a performer. With music always around her, as her older sister also played violin from age two, Zoe was always listening to music. As she gained a repertoire, she volunteered her time to play at homes for the elderly, art shows , benefits and even managing some paying gigs at some private parties. After eleven years of violin playing and, living in the Bahamas at the time, Zoe, inspired by a close friend, decided to take up the guitar. Playing guitar came quite quickly for her, and within two years, she was playing gigs with that same friend in local bars in Nassau, Bahamas. Then moving to Atlanta, Georgia, Zoe developed a great friendship with a fellow guitar player and mentor who taught her an invaluable gift, the art of fingerstyle playing. In Atlanta Zoe had great support from friends and at the age of sixteen was playing Friday and Saturday nights, holding down the bar section of a well known restaurant in Buckhead.
Back in Canada, Zoe continued to study guitar and the fingerstyle aspect. Since her return, she has played at various venues, events, and open stages, with local artists such as (Terry McDade, Jeremiah McDade, Bill Bourne, Theresa Sokyrka, Curtis Aki, and Shamik). She also studied and got the chance to jam and learn from international guitar masters, such as Pierre Bensusan, Zafar Saood, and The Montreal Guitar Trio, and a master class with Carlos Barbosa-Lima. Zoe eventually stumbled into two very interesting musicians, One being a Beatboxer named Shamik (Red Magic), who could give a beat to anything, and the other being a guitar player named Curtis (Bushleague), of incredible ability, who could play without restrictions. After jamming one song together live without having ever played together before, the band Red House was formed. Playing around the city of Edmonton at jams, and although getting great feedback, they broke up a few days before the first gig at The Urban Lounge anniversary party, but the gig was still played, with some help from other friends. Zoe was asked, by Shamik and Curtis to join them at the Sasquatch Festival in Daryton Valley, Alberta, where they played under the name The Release.
This past year Zoe has had the chances to play internationally in Switzerland, and Portugal. Zoe is currently working on her first CD. With influences from all over Europe and North and South America, Zoe uses many different guitar techniques to create the sounds on this album. "The Idea is to cover a wide spectrum of music that everyone can enjoy and relate to, whether your from the South of Spain or North of Siberia, Driving down a dirt road, or lying on your back looking up at the sky, I want this music to take people deeper, beyond what’s in front of them and down to their roots, the inner self, where all of us really live."
