I could list every style, singer and band i love
but frankly that is long and drawn out, right? I tend to pull from my youth and occasionally I add some new favorites. Genrely speaking most everything I listen to can be attempted to plug into punk, new wave, post-punk, industrial, gothic rock, shoegazer, dancepunk, electroclash, heavy metal, glam rock, rockabilly, psychobilly, gothabilly, indie rock/pop, lo-fi, and math rock. Of course the critics never seem to agree where many bands are supposed to fit and genres, sub-genres and derivatives overlap and are argued upon. My tastes are as fluid as my mood demands but also have a lot of the common core beginnings that rooted them deeply inside the beginnings of the punk movements of the 1970s, obviously with the exceptions of the heavy metal movement which was occurring simultaneously. There are some very obviously exceptions to this rule, but these are a primarily nostalgic favorites from my early childhood where country music was the only influence in my house growing up.
So my short list- my 'absolutely i could not do without
these bands' list:
Aphex Twin, Asobi Seksu, Bauhaus, Black Heart Procession, Blonde Redhead, Blondie, Broadcast, Butthole Surfers, The Buzzcocks, Johnny Cash, Cheap Trick, Chicks on Speed, The Church, Concrete Blonde, The Cramps, The Cult, Daft Punk, The Dead Kennedys, The Dead Milkmen, Delerium (early work), Dio, Disturbed, The Doobie Brothers, Dragster, The
Dresden Dolls, Eagles of Death Metal, Einsturzende Neubauten, Electric Frankenstein, The Faint, Foo Fighters, Genitorturers, The Gits, Gitane Demone, Helloween, Horrorpops, Iggy Pop, Iron Maiden, Jane's Addiction, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Joy Division/New Order, L7, The Legendary Pink Dots, The Long Blondes, Bauhaus/Love & Rockets/Tones on Tail, Lush, Marilyn Manson, Massive Attack, Ministry, Mother Love Bone, Mudhoney, My Bloody Valentine, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds/The Birthday Party/Grinderman, Radiohead, The Ramones, Reverend Horton Heat, Rob Zombie/White Zombie, Scorpions, Sigur Rós, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Sisters of Mercy, Social Distortion, The Sonics, Starlight Mints, The Supersuckers, The The, Violent Femmes, Wire, White Stripes.
I am a huge, make that HUGE, horror and sci-fi movie fan. It's one of those things that defines me according to many of my friends and family. I can still remember curled up watching Creepshow, Poltergeist, The Omen, and so many other classics of the
70s and 80s as a kid and I couldn't get enough. I still remember the
first time I was able to see some of the class Universal features from
the 30s and 40s, especially anything with Boris Karloff who to this
day is one of my favorite actors.
Now I have a considerable DVD collection consisting of classic
silent films, 1970s & 80s slasher and creature features, as well as
many films considered classics from all over the world.
My absolute favorite would be: Army of Darkness, Evil Dead II, Night of the Living Dead (1968), Dawn of the Dead (1978), Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, Re-Animator, Beyond Re-Animator, Dellamorte Dellamore (Cemetary Man), Dead Alive (Braindead), Night of the Comet, Zombi 2 (Zombie), Slither, I Zombie, Zombie Creeping Flesh (Hell of the Living Dead AKA Zombie Inferno), Shaun of the Dead, 28 Days Later/28 Weeks Later (but there are NOT zombie films, they are actually biological/cannibal horror films!), Cannibal Holocaust, The Hills Have Eyes (1975), I Spit On Your Grave, Last House on the Left, Turistas, Hostel, Wolf Creek, Saw, Saw III, Saw IV, The Descent, Possession, The Omen, Damien The Omen II, Audition, Battle Royale, Three Extremes, Tale of Two Sisters, Visitor Q, Ichi The Killer, Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, An American Werewolf in London, The Howling, Gingersnaps, Dog Soldiers, Hellraiser, Hellraiser II Hellbound, 976-Evil, The Lost Boys, Scanners, The Abominable Dr. Phibes, Willard, The Legend of Hell House, The Wicker Man (1973), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), Trilogy of Terror, Salem' Lot, The Amityville Horror (1979), Black Sunday (Mask of Satan), Black Sabbath, Blood and Black Lace, Carnival of Souls, The Brain That Wouldn't Die, Giant Gila Monster, Dementia 13, The Last Man on Earth, Identity, Bubba Ho-Tep, Twilight Zone: The Movie, Poltergeist, Prophecy (1979)
I probably could go on an on... I have a special place in my heart for
zombie films in particular from serious to campy. I will also argue to
death about how 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later are NOT zombie films
to anyone who cares to listen or can't get away from me fast enough.
I DO like non-horror/sci-fi as well particular films like
Punch-Drunk Love, Life is Beautiful, Me and You and Everyone We Know,
Being John Malkovich, Vertigo, Citizen Kane, Rear Window, Identity
i like stuff. some stuff i don't like. generally speaking, that's the
gist of it.
Welcome to my profile. I just moved back to the Seattle area after spending nearly a decade in Chicago, attending college for my BFA, learning a lot about the capacity of the human mind and the heart, and having some of the best and worst moments of my adult life. I'm still getting settled now in the area and feeling often times like a stranger to a place i have always called 'home'.
If you dont know me, i suppose i can be summarized as being a huge horror geek especially related to zombie films which for whatever reason I really got into after seeing the Evil Dead series and then Romero's Dawn of the Dead as a kid. I am good at making mix cds with strange and inconsequential names, writing novella length emails when the mood strikes me, making beautiful and disturbing pictures from nothing, picking up things with my toes, ordering PBRs at dive bars, and smirking. I smirk a lot. I am passionate and overtly opinionated; blunt and honest to the core.
My greatest passion in life is art, either learning about the common artistic history that humanity as a whole shares or creating my own. I spent an unfortunate amount of money on a piece of paper (otherwise known as a BFA in Fine Art) on this passion of mine, hopefully one day I will even get a job in the field. I'm not holding my breath however. You can view my artwork in my albums.
Who I'd like to meet: I am interested in meeting like-minded horror fans, artists, alumni of Columbia College Chicago and Auburn High that I attended with. Old and new freaks from past and present. Of course, I am interested in meeting you as well. I'm a friendly guy, sometimes. lmao.
