Zombieville is a monthly variety showcase based on the principle of seizing NYC from the cold dead hands of evil-minded promoters. Zombieville merges the worlds of New York's underground comedy, music and video art while dividing all proceeds fairly between bands and artists alike. Also, there are free cookies.
Smaller shows in NY are typically booked as showcases with the club's ideal scenario being each band bring their own crowd who empties out for the next band after their friends play so they sell more drinks. On top of this, there is polling at the door to distinguish who's there to see what band, which pits bands against each other for a piece of the show profit, and isolates fans. In turn, the agenda provides for little consideration for the quality of bands on the bill so people have no reason to stay for other bands because who knows if they'll be good!
So, we developed Zombieville.
We are attempting to get you to come out for a show for the whole nightly experience, and banish the idea of opening and headlining bands. We hope you enjoy.
A Zombieville show has 3 bands on stage, and a fourth band as a house band who plays through a separate PA , on a second tier in the middle of the club, 20 minute sets in between stage sets to keep the music going and keep fans from having to spend 20 minutes watching a band move amps and shuffle pedals. A local comedian hosts and shows a few videos as well. Priced at $8, all ages, bands are paid fairly, and we ensure quality of the eclectic bills we put together. Never will be a night of all dance bands, or all indie shoegazers, as is customary with plenty of other show nights in the city. Through these shows we hope to build a more cohesive artistic community in New York City, bringing together the music and comedy scenes, and providing the area's great bands with an environment to meet each other in a creative setting, and involve EVERYONE in the best, collective show experience. Plus, the bands and everyone involved with performing in the show share a pie before the show, during soundcheck.
