Zona Tango is one of the musical projects directed by the Argentine musician Pedro Menéndez.
Pedro Menéndez is a distinguished composer and talented multinstrumentalist recognized for an unique and personal composition style mainly influenced by the rythms of his country folk music –tango, candombe, chacarera-, jazz, Brazilian rythms like bossa nova or capoeira, and contemporary classical expressions.
In the year 2004, after a long stay in Spain and France featuring music of his own as well as tango on festivals and ‘milongas’, Pedro Menéndez came back to Buenos Aires with new interesting views and the need to experiment and open a new different space inside the emerging genre of electrotango by going beyond the simple fusion of modern tango and electronic sounds adding other elements like jazz and Latin / Afro-american rythms.
He joined talented and expressive bandoneonist Oscar Fasanelli together with Maurice Lévar on electronics and finally the first CD of Zona Tango: Electrónico (2004) was born, with an unique, solid composition style and a varied and not conventional instrumentation.
On June 2006 Zona Tango released his second discographic work introducing to the world the first innovative mixture between Electro Tango & Bossa : 'BrazilTango' , including 9 original compositions of Pedro Menendez as well as personal arrangements of the famous pieces ‘Adiós Nonino’ (Astor Piazzolla) and ‘Corcovado’ (Antonio Carlos Jobim).
On September 2007 Zona Tango was invited to participate with his Track 'Tangostoso' (CD 'BrazilTango') on the worldwide promoted Compilation CD "Buenos Aires - Paris, The Best of Electronic Tango, Vol 2.
Among other recent concerts, on March 2008 the band toured with great success in the city of Austin, Texas (US) performing on one of the largest and distinguished events of the year, the SOUTH BY SOUTWEST (SXSW) MUSIC FESTIVAL & CONFERENCE, on an INTERNATIONAL SHOW at the RHIZOME COLLECTIVE and on the Latin/Brazilian Radio Show 'Horizontes' on Austin KUT FM.
