Although I work alone, I have many MANY influences from friends, other bands, labels and visual artists; many of them falling in more than one of these categories!
Influences
Like I mentionned before, the Art influences the music, and the music influences the art, which form a complete whole in the end process.
Wether it's the Creativity of artists like Radiohead, Björk, Sigur Rós, Dvorak, The Beatles, Amon Tobin or Miles Davis;
The mind blowing potential of my musical friends like The 6th String, Mad Spiral, Never More Than Less, In Apparatus Complacency or Les Becs Bunsen;
The Pure and clear perception of James Nachtway, Paul Klee, Rothko or Stanley Donwood;
The similar approach of Mies Van Der Rohe and Ramachandra Borcar;
Or the Raw authentic power of masters like Bill Monroe, Howlin' Wolf, Elmore James And Johny Cash,
they have all reached me on different levels that molded my perception of creativity and helped me build the foundations of my project.

I had a few bands in the past but Zonophone really started in 2002 as I began experimenting with my own projects; initiating the basis for my own musical universe.
The first full length self-titled album was finalized in June 2006 and is now available on all major download sites like Itunes, Napster and Puretracks .
I am currently working on my second album called 5-10 KHz, The Spectrum Of Sibilants from which 3 tracks are available on this page as well as more up to date information about the on-going project in my BLOG.
Mostly sample based (with tools such as REASON, Ableton LIVE and PRO TOOLS), I use a lot of home made loops as I also use pre-existing sounds, transformed and modified beyond recognition.
Samples are sequenced and repeated in a very structured manner, just like the way we physically separate every aspect of life in quantifiable units. The structure of things is the link between all existing elements surrounding us.
Largely influenced by the visual art from my Fine Arts degree, you will find the music is very simply and strongly structured, but carries a lot of emotion and texture meant to instantly transport you in a different universe, a universe that differs from one listener to another.
For virtually every song or project, there is usually a large array of images, whether still or kinetic, associated to them; photography, painting, film or digital art influenced by the essence of the music.
The goal is simply to hear the music in your head when you look at the Art, and to see images when you listen to the music. As one complete whole that reflects one and other.
On a far more conceptual level, the music from Zonophone is the junction between three fundamental elements: time, space and movement. Basically, time and space coexist separately in a paralleled course until movement comes and crosses their path; Space modifies itself in time because of movement. This dynamic can be positive and thriving or negative and destructive, but either way, it always reflects the state of mind of the person listening to it as much as the one of the person who made it.
It is through this “trilogic” dynamic that Zonophone (and music in general) takes all its sense. You can have music, have people making it and have people ready to listen to it, but it only becomes ART when the wheel turns, when all 3 elements are put in motion; when people listen to the music made by the creator; when space (physical or musical) is transformed through time by the mind’s different approaches to perceiving it. Inertia becomes dynamic and sounds become music.
People stop “hearing” and start “listening”.

J’ai fais partie de plusieurs bands par le passé, mais Zonophone a vraiment vu le jour en 2002 alors que j’ai commencé à expérimenter avec mes propres projets, créant ainsi les bases de mon univers musical à moi.

Principalement à base d’échantillonnage (avec des outils tels que Ableton LIVE, Reason et Pro Tools), j’utilise beaucoup de sons enregistrés par moi-même ainsi que d’autres sons préexistants, transformés et modifiés au-delà du reconnaissable, créant un tout nouvel univers sonore.
Les échantillons sont séquencés de façon répétitive et très structurée, tout comme on sépare physiquement tous les aspects de la vie en unités quantifiables. La structure des choses est le lien existant entre tous les éléments qui nous entourent.
Largement influencé par ma formation en arts visuels, vous trouverez que ma musique est très simplement et fortement structurée, mais qu’elle transporte une puissante charge émotive et texturale, destinée à vous transporter instantanément dans un univers complètement différent, un univers qui diffère d’un auditeur à l’autre.
Pour pratiquement chaque pièce ou projet, il y a habituellement un large spectre d’images, fixes ou cinétiques, qui y sont associées ; photographie, peinture, film ou art numérique, influencé par l’essence de la musique en question.
Le but est simple : entendre la musique dans notre tête lorsqu’on regarde le visuel et voir des images lorsqu’on entend la musique. Tel un tout complet qui se reflète l’un et l’autre.
Sur un plan beaucoup plus conceptuel, la musique de Zonophone est la jonction entre trois notions fondamentales : le temps, l’espace et le mouvement (ou le geste). En fait, le temps et l’espace coexistent séparément et de façon inerte et parallèle jusqu’à ce que le mouvement vienne croiser leur chemin ; bref, l’espace se modifie dans le temps par le mouvement. Cette dynamique peut être positive et grandissante, mais elle peut aussi devenir négative et destructrice, mais d’une façon ou d’une autre, elle reflète toujours l’état d’esprit de la personne qui écoute, au même titre que celui de la personne qui l’a créé. C’est un mélange unique et dynamique.
C’est par cette dynamique trilogique que Zonophone (et toute musique et autre forme d’art en général) prend tout son sens. Il peut y avoir de la musique, y avoir des personnes qui la créent, et d’autres prêts a l’écouter, mais ça devient ART seulement lorsque la « roue » tourne et que les 3 éléments sont enclenchés dans leur motion commune ; lorsque les gens écoutent la musique faite par le créateur ; lorsque l’espace (physique ou musical) est transformé dans le temps par les différentes approches de l’esprit qui la perçoit.
L’inertie devient dynamique et les sons deviennent musique.
Les gens cessent d’entendre et commencent à écouter.
