BIOGRAPHY

Zorita are a raucous rousing rabble. The band’s bohemian music boasts an eclectic mix of instruments like the accordion, trumpet and violin. In combination with bass, drums and guitars, as well as frontman Carlos Zorita Diaz’ raw voice, this creates a completely unique sound. Blending influences from South America, the Mediterranean and Folk music, an evening with Zorita is guaranteed to breathe life into any party. In their own words, the 8 musicians of Zorita describe their well-oiled ragtag collection of instruments, styles and personalities as ‘Musica Vagabunda’.

Dutch Success Story
Zorita impressed judges and audiences in the finals of competitions like ´De Grote Prijs van Nederland’ (2010) and the ‘Amsterdamse Popprijs’ (2009) . In the Dutch Popronde, Zorita wowed audiences nationwide. The past three years saw these seasoned musicians play dozens of festivals like SAIL 2010, Fiesta Mundial and Lowlands – both inside and outside the Netherlands.

Amor Y Muerte
Zorita spent two years polishing their songs in close collaboration with famed Dutch rock producer Danny Gras before presenting the results to the masses in 2012. Distributed by Suburban, it received universal acclaim in Belgium and the Netherlands. The album immediately soared to the number 1 spot in the Dutch Alternative record charts, outperforming household names like Jack White.

Zorita: El Classico
Worldwide sportscaster ESPN used the energy of Zorita’s song ‘The Clyster of the World’ to promote El Classico, the Champions League confrontation of Real Madrid and Barcelona. Described by Dutch magazines as “world class musicians, every one of them” and “absolutely sensational both on stage and on CD”, radio broadcaster 3FM says Zorita is “absolutely unique”.

After playing in the finals of the Amsterdamse Pop Prijs (in De Melkweg), the finals of the Amsterdam Harbour Song (in De Melkweg), we now made it to the crème de la crème of the Dutch Music competition: the Finals of ..De Grote Prijs van Nederland 2010.., (in De Melkweg). On the 11th of december we’ll be competing with 5 other bands for the grand prize. We’re working on a production you’ll have never seen before. Picking up anything worthwhile on their musical expeditions, their suitcase keeps growing bigger and bigger. Mixing it all together, this band brings you an eclectic melting pot of genres which is best experienced live. They carry their audiences on a trip through Mexico, Paris, the Colorado desert, Broek op Langedijk, Sevilla and Hungary in one unforgettable night. If their music should be labelled, Mestizo pop would be the best description. .. .. Amsterdam is a safe haven to the musicians of Zorita, who came there from various places across Europe. Starting out with five members in 2008, the band now has grown to an ensemble of eight musicians in 2009. With a whole range of instruments at their disposal and a sound of their own, Zorita combines the dirt and dissonance of the likes of Tom Waits with the exotic of Calexico and Lhasa de Sela; the melancholy of Jacques Brel and Beirut with danceable rhythms of Gogol Bordello and Manu Chao.
