About me: Hi, this is Tee Don! I am a pure blooded Cajun, a double Landry, and I live in Sunset, LA, where I make Key of Z Rubboards in the tradition started by my daddy, Mr. Willie Landry, who made the first Zydeco Rubboard for Mr. Clifton Chenier!
As a musician playing the Zydeco Rubboard with Lynn August and the Hot August Knights, Zydeco Joe and the Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler Band, and many others, I have travelled the World! My music is deeply rooted in both Zydeco & Cajun music.
My family hails originally from Leroy, LA, in Vermillion Parish, LA. I was Born in Port Arthur, Texas in 1957. We moved back to Lafayette when I was only three years old. My heritage and strong commitment to preserve a truly unique musical instrument results in the high quality production of my handmade " Key of Z" Rubboards.
Key of Z stainless steel, musical rubboards are in demand around the world. Many famous American Musicians play a Key of Z musical Rubboard in their bands, including C.J. Chenier (son of Clifton Chenier), Buckwheat Zydeco, Chubby Carrier, Zydeco Joe, Cyril Neville of the famous "Neville Brothers", Billy F. Gibbons of ZZ Top, David Peters drummer for "Gatemouth Brown", Richard Innes of "The Fabulous Thunderbirds", and Zydeco T Carrier of “MOJO & The Bayou Gypsies”, just to name a few.
The Frottoir, first made by my daddy is a true American Musical Instrument! I am proud to say two of my rubboards are in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC. Enjoy playing one of these amazing instruments or simply enjoy the story of south Louisiana's truly unique, hand-crafted musical instrument: a Key of Z Rubboard, a piece of Zydeco Music History! On our sheaux at The Pizza Factory, I got up on stage and played Keiko's "Open Road" on the rubbourd- I love that song. Mix betwixt zydeco blues/country. I love it that she still writes stuff just for us out here, you know? I have to fix the strap for their mini frottoir, somehow bo-Pah managed to snap it ? She was getting real good at playing it while she drummed, but now it's some argue because Mimi wore it while she sang normally and bo-Pah swears she had nothing to do with it, that she just found it like that even though she was the last one with it? 7.
Keiko wants to learn Jambalaya en Francais and may need help with the pronunciation-hard to hear it on Mr. Jo-El's recording-will you help her avec ca?
