Zygomatik is a colombian electronic music project that combines a retro-tronique synth-melodic sound with punky-trashy male vocals using also fashion and image as artifact for the eye delight. Lyrics emotionally and sometimes politically charged that recognizes the imminent power of a microphone & the particular way of understanding music, at the service of the message, as a strange mixture of passion, provocation and impulses; are the most important ingredients of this exotic & rare receipt. Zygo is the idol, not the product. Matik the machinery and weapons to conquer the audience's ears.
Began as a concept for defining the collaboration, between young artist and designer Dann Mecklar & producer Federico Goes (ex Estados Alterados), that took place in Medellin City in 2004. Its developement as a project for itself, defining the image of the artist Dann Mecklar in the underground scene of Bogotá and Colombia, occured during 2005. Performances in electronic clubs and bars of Colombia, like Cha Cha Club, La Sala, Gotica, Cinema (Bogota), El Deck, Berlin Bar (Medellin); sharing stage with international artists like Boy George, Mount Sims, Felix Da Housecat and Tok Tok vs. Soffy O or the first EP of the project “I love my Atari” worldwide released in April 2006 under french label Sismic Music; are just the first steps of a project that belives in reinvention.
“Gumpop-trash electro” is how Zygo defines his tone. Not a style, nor a genre. It's just another way of viewing what happens in this context and re-construct that reality through a singular language materialized in songs. Obviously as a self projection. Sweet and bitter. Sometimes utopic, others cruel or sarcastic. But always in search of comunicating something: a feeling, a thought, a smile or a lament. It doesn't matter.
Zygo is Dann Mecklar's alter ego, the singer character. Just one side of the artist also complemented by his other multiple faces. A character difficult to ignore. His warm, multi-coloured and empowered voice, poisoned with that indie tone evoking Daniel Ash or Roberth Smith but with the shiny personality of Bowie; the polemic words of Bukowski contradicting the fashionable image of a Gaultier's character.
