Zythum was an original Rock trio when formed in 1982. We started out recording on various "BOOM BOXES" and then moved on to a cassette deck with 2 mics. There was a RUSH influence from my brother Bob who played the drums (his nick name was Uncle Bob and he was 14 years old) and Zythum's original bass player, John Savone (who was 16.) I was a 17 year old Composer and did not have much interest in RUSH, or most Rock bands. This was the mid eighties, with MTV just coming on the scene. The original group broke up in July of 1984 and to tell you the truth......I never had another band again! Zythum sounded like Hard Rock and Art Rock combined into something that was not pretentious. There was a Spiritual mission with the Zythum work and that mission continues today! A 6 CD box set called, "MOMENTS OF MAGIC" is what that band left behind. When I was 12 I found the music of Jimi Hendrix and soon after that, many other 1960's Classic Rock bands followed. I never got to know the musicians music to personally once I started to Compose my own by age 16. I took influences abstractly, sucking in the flavors but not the content...I did not study music, guitar, or any other instruments like some one might learn a phrase or line out of some particular Blues lick
.
Since 1995 I have worked and recorded with absolutely NO MUSICIANS!
My musical style is a fusion of many forms of combined structures, it is not so easy to describe as such. There are 54 albums in the Zythum vaults, with the last one being a 2 CD garage parody album entitled, "PURPLE IRON HAT" , released in 2003. HAT was a nod to FRANK ZAPPA, who was perhaps my strongest influence in the 1990s.The pressure to do all the recording and instruments myself has certainly taken a toll. 2009 will be the first year that I will be able to properly work since 2003!
I went through some bad religious circles a few years back and I am tired of all the falsity! Rather than display anything that might be identified as a particular frame work of faith and more idol worship that turns heads in disbelief no matter what name you call. In the end, what is most important is the spirit in which one lived. I am a believer and that is all you need to know about me!
