My music tastes veer towards more soulful female singers: Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Sarah Vaughan,Thelma Jones Aretha Franklin, Sade, Lauryn Hill, India Arie, Mary J. Blige, Corine Bailey Rae, Erikah Badu, Amy Winehouse, Norah Jones, Leona Lewis, Lily Allen, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce Knowles, Annie Lennox amongst others. I also like pop; Madonna, George Michael, Sugarbabes, Depeche Mode etc.
Movies
I like European cinema as it tends to carry more depth and realism whereas American Cinema has become too commerical, risk free, and tends to be inundated with saccharine American Pie endplots to appease the box office. My favourite directors are Louis Malle, Pedro Almovodar, Frederico Fellini. In the US I admire Spike Lee, Spike Jonze, Sofia Coppola and Oliver Stone.

I prefer women writers and my favourite writers are Iris Murdoch, Muriel Spark, Fay Weldon, Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, Alice Munro, Anita Brookner,Doris Lessing and Margaret Atwood amongst others. I recently liked Alan Hollinghurst's 'The Line of Beauty', a veritable classic.
I also enjoy reading biographies and critical essays and my faves are by Edmund White, Susan Sontag and Foucault. I like dark, controversial women poets and writers like Sylvia Plath, Emily Dickinson, Ayn Rand and Katherine Mansfield.I am also fascinated by how Daphne du Maurier's life informed her writing to such a great extent.
However one of my favourite novels is 'The Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald and I can say I relate to Jay Gatsby's idealism. I also relate to Tess in Hardy's 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles':her vulnerability and not having boundaries.

I am 41 years old Capricorn male (January 7 1968, although my US passport says '69) and the adjective people most use when they meet me is 'interesting,' perhaps meaning that I invoke interest because of the mysterious aura I emanate.
It may have to do with the fact that I'm often deemed as someone who appears to be 24 to 30 (max) years old( It's the attitude, and ok I admit,scrupulous skin care!)
I grew up in England and attended private boarding schools and private secondary schools (called Public Schools in England). I presently live in Karachi, Pakistan but received a BA degree in English and a minor in Political Science from a Portland,Oregon college.
In high School in Pakistan I was Head Boy(Head Prefect; editor of the School magazine and year book and also president of both the debating and drama societies.
I began a Masters program in 'Media Studies, Strategic Planning and Magazine Development (tailor-made) 'from NYU which I completed in the Summer of 2006.
I have quite an interesting career in Karachi. I am supposed to be a "leading and influential fashion journalist" deemed 'One of the 50 Most Important People in Entertainment' by a glossy magazine.
My specialty is Fashion. I am a veritable encyclopedia on the subject. My personal favourite designers to wear are currently John Varvatos, John Richmond, Hedi Slimane for YSL Homme and Gianfranco Ferre. Armani, Dolce & Gabbana and Vivienne Westwood are perennial favourites.
In Women's Fashion you'd have to come over for coffee to discuss but needless to say Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada,Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors John Galliano and Alexander McQueen are beyond.
I have written for much of Pakistan's print media including 'Dawn Images';'Newsline';'Visage';'Fashion Collection';'Diva';'MR';'FAQ''Xing!';'SHE';'Women's Own';'Lines!'; and Broadcast scripts for Pakistan's first music channel, 'Indus Music' which has morphed in MTV Pakistan.
I also had/have a fashion based interview talk show 'I on Style' and have acted in a music video as a bondaged spy and made cameo appearances in a sitcom playing a soap opera-like evil fashion designer, taking inspiration from my designer buddies!
I enjoy a healthy balanced lifestyle and do resistance training, cardio, Pilates and yoga and enjoy nutritious and oftentimes organic foods although I am not overly picky though I do read labels... and comprehend them!
I enjoy popular culture and am a magazine fiend, having worked, launched and re-vamped a few magazines in the past.
Vanity Fair, Vogue, Esquire, GQ, Newsweek, and The New Yorker are my more erudite favourites while People, In Style, Interview, W. etc are nice to look at and enjoy.
My favourite foods are the ones I create myself: spontaneous and creative: great fusion cooking. Ask for an invite.
I enjoy fine dining with some apropos wine and intimate friends and great conversation. Classy lounges as opposed to seedy bars, but I like to people watch and mingle in either milieu as I am never judgmental: always social, embracing, compassionate and loving...
I am sensitive and strong; erudite and witty; openhearted and even more openminded. Humanity does not faze me: it energizes me.
