Embracing the Italo-house sound of the mid-'90s, Angel City's dance reworkings of classic pop tracks achieved chart success both in the U.K. and the U.S. Put together by the Ministry of Sound label in 2003, singer Lara McKellen, a former model turned backing dancer for Shakira, and Dutch DJs Hugo Zentveld and Aldwin Oomen scored several U.K. Top 20 singles with Hi-NRG cover versions of tracks by Ready for the World ("Love Me Right"), also a Billboard Hot 100 hit, Cathy Dennis ("Touch Me"), and a mash-up of Robert Miles' "Children" and Michelle Gayle's "Do You Know." Their debut album, Love Me Right, which also included their original composition single "Sunrise," reached number 44 in 2005. The same year, McKellen left the project to pursue a solo career, but contributed to various tracks that were released sporadically through various Clubland compilation albums. In 2010, they released their comeback single, with their version of Jesse McCartney's "How Do You Sleep." ~ Jon O'Brien
