Beatmaker, television host, mixtape presenter, and all-around music entrepreneur, Scott Keeney is better known to hip-hop fans as DJ Skee.
Born in New York City but raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Skee moved to Los Angeles, California after high school in order to be closer to the music business. He first landed a job at the Loud record label, but his moonlighting gigs were where he made his name, hosting mixtapes for artists like Game and Nipsey Hussle while DJing shows where stars like Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, and Mike Posner would drop in. A pivotal moment came in 2005 when the DJ Skee and Game mixtape You Know What It Is, Vol. 3 dropped featuring "300 Bars and Runnin'," a diss track aimed at 50 Cent and his G-Unit crew that kicked off a public battle between the two camps. That same year, Skee launched his satellite radio career with an afternoon show on XM's Hip-Hop Nation, while 2012 saw him put his imprint on the above-ground music label industry when Ryan Beatty's debut EP, Because of You, appeared on OC Skee records. In 2013 he launched the hip-hop-focused television show DJ Skee live on the AXS TV cable network, while that same year, his collaborative mixtape with Game, OKE Operation Kill Everything, became the rapper's first post-Interscope release and climbed to 89 on the Billboard 200 album chart. ~ David Jeffries
