Gallery Receptions
Our gallery opening receptions, held four times a year, are an opportunity for a party! You’ll enjoy light refreshments, music, and sometimes, other entertainment, too, along with exciting visual works. More often than not, the shows highlight the work of women artists.
Electronic Catalog
Even when our most sought-after pieces are visiting museums from Peoria to Paris, you can still see them by going to the
electronic catalog.
If it’s a specific work that you want to see, you’ll find it with no trouble by using our easy-to-follow cataloging system. And if you’d just like to browse, you can do that, too. You may be surprised by what you find – did you know Scripps owns some amazing work by the Impressionists, wonderful Asian prints and textile, photography from the 19th century to the present, and ceramics made by artists whose work was highly influential on today’s ceramicists? And that’s only a small portion of the works available to you on the electronic catalog.
Paid Internships
Interested in a career in the arts? For the sixteenth year, the gallery is offering paid summer internships, made possible by C. Jane Hurley Wilson '64 and Michael G. Wilson and the Getty Foundation. In addition to organizing exhibitions and caring for the collection, interns explore different career possibilities in the arts. On field trips with Mary MacNaughton, the interns visit various museums where they interview curators, critics, and conservators.
Along with the summer Wilson internship, the gallery hosts academic year internships, again made possible by the generosity of C. Jane Hurley Wilson '64 and Michael G. Wilson. Students work with the director and collection manager to help organize forthcoming exhibitions, prepare publications and grants, write press releases, and care for the permanent collection. These paid internships take eight hours a week and extend from the beginning of October through the end of April.
