About Karate Shoes Mixtape hosted by Alex Thomas '09
Spytech Records is proud to announce the release of My Turn, the debut album from Los Angeles-based emcee Four Zone.
Four Zone, a.k.a.Maurice Haney, describes his first solo venture as "motivation music," reminiscent of the days when hip-hop was made to catch a head nod. Furious, fun, and to the point, My Turn is a perfection reflection of someone who grew up on the west coast listening to A-HA while reciting N.W.A. lyrics in his head.
Four Zone first caught the attention of then up-and-coming emcee Takbir of Fort Minor/Styles of Beyond who quickly introduced him to the rest of the Styles of Beyond family. "When I first met him, I was impressed by how a big guy like him can spit rhymes so fast and still be skillful and witty, without sounding like bad imitation of Biggie" says Ryu of FM/SoB, who was quick to secure Four Zone as their hype man on numerous shows.
Over the past few years, Four Zone has worked his way up through the infamous L.A. hip-hop scene, not just as a talented emcee but also as an accomplished beat-boxer. Four Zone's talent for making music with his mouth eventually landed him a gig on national television, beat-boxing the theme music for Entertainment Tonight. He was also featured alongside such hip-hop legends as Doug E. Fresh, Biz Markie, and Rahzel of The Roots, in Joey Garfield's critically acclaimed 2002 documentary, Breathe Control The History of the Human Beat Box.
My Turn features the production talents of DJ Cheapshot and Vin Skully of Styles of Beyond fame, along with a few up-and-coming producers such as Oliver Twist and Fastrack in crafting his debut album. My Turn features noteworthy tracks like "Bounce," the album's debut single, and "Lap Dance" (feat. Interrogator), both destined to be hits in the club. "Off-Safety," a feverish funky anthem features Ryu and Tak of SoB, on the soon-to-be-classic Spytech posse cut. He's paid his dues and now this emcee is ready to make some serious noise
