About me:
PLEASE VISIT The (art) Garage page as our venue has changed hands to our friend Jason and his lovely wife Amy.
----Tom opened The Garage in January of 2004 to provide a much needed and affordable habitat for the growing number of local artists in Columbia, SC. Much of the first year was dedicated to visual art shows, driven mainly by artists who desired a venue in which they had a majority of control over the final environment of the show. Due to exposure and local need, The Garage has since expanded its purpose and is currently hosting artistic shows of all mediums.
The Garage is open to new ideas and we would like to hear your comments or recommendations.
The Garage is primarily funded by the leasing of artist studios. We currently have all 9 studio spaces occupied by artists involved in mixed media arts, painting, musical creation, film, architecture, wood working and musical recording arts. In order to keep studio rental costs to a reasonable minimum, The Garage hosts shows of various genres and mediums to help cover operation expenses.
(Personal note)
The Garage exists only because of particular local needs. I suppose I could quit my day job, charge 50% art sale commissions, $15 at the door for music shows, and staff a bar for those who just want to drink; instead I will leave this venture for one which desires this. As long as I am here all I wish is collaboration between artists and to provide a venue in which the sole purpose of attending is to appreciate what is occurring. Please enjoy!
-Tom
