In their third & most accomplished album, Fight Against Darkness, Chet give rise to a sound that is as fleeting in its own time as it is staggeringly archaic, invoking the passion of a sweaty Sam Cooke performance and the grace of any Edith Piaf crescendo.
Chet "Kau'ai"
ARG105
In Kauai, lethargic, haunting and orchestral grace stirs in the vast expanses between familial love, passion, man and woman, trial and failure. As slow & deliberate as any loving moment and as disarming as the sound of your mother singing softly some rooms away, Chet create soulful music that is as overtly, undeniably gorgeous as it is stunningly personable.
Himalayan Bear "Lo Lonesome Island"
ARG103
In his first album of efforts committed to the Himalayan Bear moniker, Ryan Beattie makes good on his appointment as one of the most beautiful siren voices this side Kau'ai itself. Rich with Polynesian themes and warmth, Lo Lonesome Island is an adept testament to the island mentality & may well sadden & disassemble you just enough for you to emerge humble & grateful for the experience.
Away, Ri'o! "All Things Shining"
ARG104
You may never have heard overdriven guitars sound this clairvoyantly beautiful, or at least not since Neil Young's "Alabama". Equally, you may well not have heard a throat billow so beautifully as though slate collapsing upon itself only to form smooth stone, at least not since Tom Waits sang "Cold, Cold Ground".
Just a quick reminder that we're in Victoria this weekend at the James Bay Market, Cornerstone Cafe and Logan's Pub. Please help us spread the word by telling everyone you know in the area! It's our first time out there and we'd love to meet lots of locals!
Vancouver, BC – In a world of free music downloads and generic top 40 hits there are still a rare breed of artists that still work hard to create something amazing and are definitely underrated members of the music scene. They are gig posters artists! You see their posters on walls for a few seconds as you walk by but they spend countless hours working away at it.
GIG POSTER PALOOZA will feature the following artists: Raymond Biesinger Justin LaFontaine, Ed Kwong, Joey MacDonald, Dani Vachon, Sean Maxey, Katie Lapi, Cody Fennell, Andrew Benson, Zac Laroque Walker, Lyle Bell and more. These people don’t just do posters for shows but are well-rounded creative individuals. They are members of bands that tour the country, run independent record labels, promote the biggest shows in town, work for graphics design companies and still find time to put their hardest efforts in producing some of the most creative work you will ever see.
Love and Mathematics, Vincat, Sean Wesley Woods, Hills Like White Elephants and Portraits will be accompanying the artists. Love and Mathematics has become one of Vancouver’s favorites with their unique atmospheric rock. Sean Wesley Wood is “one of the city’s most promising and likeable songwriter” as quoted from Exclaim Magazine. Hills Like White Elephants just played the inaugural Sled Island Festival and Exlclaim Magazine claims they are” another band to the mini-buzz emanating from Edmonton” This is a preview of what a majestic evening this will be.
