ACIDENTE is a Rio de Janeiro-based band founded in 1978 which recorded 10 independent records with over 100 tracks and never had a hit. Notwithstanding, ACIDENTE's songs can be found relatively easily on the web.
As a matter of fact, the name ACIDENTE refers to 2 different bands. The first one was created in 1978 by Journalism students and its classical line-up was:
Paulo Malaria (keyboards, vocals), Helio "Scubi" Jenne (guitar, vocals), Guto Rolim (bass) and Zeca Pereira (drums). In 1981, tired of waiting for a contract that would never come, Malaria produced their first independent LP, "Guerra Civil". They still recorded another LP, "Guerra Civil" (1983), and a double 7', "Piolho" (1985). Their style was basic rock'n'roll, with drops of blues and pop. ACIDENTE found itself stepping on a mined camp when in 1982 the major labels decided to invest in Brazilian rock, chossing a half-dozen names to occupy all spaces in the midia and sentencing all the others to extinction. In 1987, without any expectation or acknowledgement, this first ACIDENTE played for the last time and disbanded.
Paulo Malaria kept the name and the dream. In 1989, he could finally form a new ACIDENTE, this time pledged to instrumental rock with 70's prog inspiration. Now the band was him plus Zunga Ezzaet (guitar), Jarbas Loop (bass) and Bruno Mega (drums). So they recorded the LP "(Em caso de Acidente...) Quebre Este Disco". It was intended that the line-up would not change; however, in the following years and records, one by one the musicians left and were replaced, until that in 2002 ACIDENTE was composed by Ary Menezes (bass), Mario Costa (drums), Renato Borges (guitar) and survivor Malaria. In these 13 years they released the CDs "Gloomland" (1994), "Technolorgy" (1996), "Quebre Este Disco" (2000 - CD reissue of 1990's vinyl plus bonus tracks) and "Technolorgy" (2002). The first two ones, under Malaria's label Stolen Records, had little reach, but "Quebre Este Disco" and specially "Technolorgy", labeled Rock Symphony (Brazil)/ Musea (France), expanded ACIDENTE to new frontiers.
In 2003 the same line-up of "Technolorgy" recorded a pop-rock album, "Pega Varetas - Meu Pau de Sebo". Ever since the band seldom reunited again. In 2007, Malaria and co-founder "Scubi" Jenne made one more basic rock album, "Nao Pode Ser Vendido Separadamente". Both CDs were released by Stolen Records.
