   About adam snyder
ADAM SNYDER was originally from NYC then grew up mostly in Kingston. He spent his 20s moving all over then returned to Kingston in recent years. ___________________________________________________________________________ HOW DO I KNOW THIS GUY? -- Adam has contributed to many bands, such as The Waterboys and New Order, though he's probably best known as a key member of Mercury Rev from 1995 through 2000. The so-called Deserters Songs period saw the band earn its first gold records as it rose from cult indie status to gaining recognition worldwide. As a solo musician Adam has played in cities and towns across the US and in about 25 countries around the world. ___________________________________________________________________________ FIRST ALBUM -- Adam's first album "Across The Pond" was recorded in the UK for David Gray's HTI label. A critical success, the album's debut single was snatched up by BBC radio and hit the top 40 in the UK. ___________________________________________________________________________ NEW ALBUM -- "THIS TOWN WILL GET ITS DUE" AVAILABLE: JANUARY 2007.................... William Faulkner once said something like: “The past isn’t over, it’s still happening.” If you can wrap your head around this, you’ll begin to understand the origins of This Town Will Get Its Due. Written in a small, post-industrial city with a continuous history going back further than many similar American towns, the ghosts step up to tell their stories (along with hopes for the future, a bit of social commentary, some longing, and at least one old-fashioned love song.) Produced by Adam Snyder and Richard Hynd, this is an album in the traditional sense of the word. ___________________________________________________________________________ HOW CAN I GET IT? -- http://cdbaby.com/cd/adamsnyder where you can also sample much of the album ___________________________________________________________________________ COOL VIDEO -- Adam in Kingston in Chronogram Magazine: http://www.chronogram.com ___________________________________________________________________________ SOME BASIC FACTS ABOUT KINGSTON -- Kingston is on the Hudson River 90 miles north of NYC. The area was home to the Esopus indians until the Dutch arrived in the early 1600s and settled one of the first colonial towns on the continent. The English took control from the Dutch, then eventually burned the place to the ground because it had become the Revolutionary capital of NY State. The town was was rebuilt and grew into an industrial center, becoming a city in the 1870s. The Depression hit Kingston particularly hard. The post-war boom helped, but by that point the surrounding sprawl was seen to be more valuable than the town it sprang from. In more recent times, the closing of the IBM plant could've rang the death nell for Kingston, but locals hold fast and newcomers begin to filter in, sensing that a new chapter is about to be written. What that chapter will be still seems uncertain. The story of Kingston is the story of America. [see blog entitled THIS TOWN makes TOP 10 for a recent, encouraging development!] ___________________________________________________________________________ DOES ADAM ACTUALLY REPLY TO MESSAGES ON MYSPACE? -- "Yep." ___________________________________________________________________________
