ADLER & HEARNE BIO...
From the East Texas piney woods outside the rural hamlet of Winnsboro, performing songwriters LYNN ADLER and LINDY HEARNE serve up fresh harvests of homegrown music, mixed with seasoned tunes from their combined collections of original ballads and story songs.
The two met in Nashville while on solo musical journeys. Years later their paths merged in Texas, where they formed the duo Adler & Hearne. In 2008, they returned to the city where they first met to record their debut studio recording “TO THE HEART.”
Since planting themselves in the ‘upper east side’ of Texas, Adler & Hearne's music has grown deep roots in the sandy soil of their Spring Hollow Organic Song Farm – a place considered hallowed ground by the stream of countless friends and family who gather there for the reverie of music making, and good times spent alongside the deep spring waters of ‘Goolsby’s Pool.’
In concert, Adler & Hearne’s songs are a spirited blend of original, folk-jazz blues-grass. She (Adler) sings and plays rhythm guitar. He (Hearne) sings and plays guitar, mandolin and harmonica. Their live sets range from crooning songs of love and longing, losing and finding – to covering touchy subjects with unexpected musical overtones – to camping it up with modern-day spirituals steeped in dry wit.
In recording “TO THE HEART” at Nashville’s House of David Studio, the duo – guided by producer RICK CLARK – put together a carefully chosen collection of 13 songs. To borrow from Clark’s liner notes, “…the challenge became not one of finding enough songs to create a compelling reason for an album, but one of having the wonderful opportunity of letting each little story begin illuminating a larger theme. Images of water (peaceful and restorative and also flowing), building bridges, and the preciousness of love and life emerged.”
On “TO THE HEART,” Adler & Hearne are accompanied by six gifted musicians – all artists in their own right: BYRON HOUSE on bass, ROB ICKES on dobro, MICHAEL JOHNSON on classical guitar, ANDY LEFTWICH on fiddle, viola, mandolin and mandola, KEN LEWIS on percussion, and DAVE POMEROY on bass. Co-writers on five of the songs include LISA ASCHMANN, HAL GREENWOOD, FREDDY LOVVORN, and TOM PRASADA-RAO.
“Over all the years of working in music,” says Clark, “I’ve never worked on a project that was as deeply soulful as this. There were times in the making of this album when it was obvious everyone involved was clearly touched, and there was a sense of something special clearly happening in the grooves.”
Adler & Hearne’s musical formative years share roots in gospel and classical music - organic influences that no doubt inform the duo's singing and songwriting. But the subject matter of their songs knows no bounds – nor does their musical style. As songwriters, the two take themselves seriously enough. As artists, they're at ease with being hard to define.
As organic song farmers, Adler & Hearne's favorite venues to play include community concert halls and folk venues, house concerts and church coffeehouses, festivals and conferences, and venues of all description that provide an opportunity to have a meaningful connection with a listening audience. That includes campfires, backyards, float trips, cruises, suburbs, skyscrapers, villages and towns worldwide.
